Comedian Eric Omondi's Brother Killed in a Bodaboda Accident

The Kenyan entertainment industry is mourning the tragic death of Fred Omondi, the younger brother of renowned comedian and activist Eric Omondi.

The fatal accident which claimed Fred's life occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning on Kagundo Road. According to police reports, the incident unfolded when the motorcycle carrying Fred collided head-on with a bus near Caltex Petrol Station around 6 am. The bus was en route to Nairobi's Central Business District from Kayole, while the bodaboda was travelling in the opposite direction, purportedly on the wrong side of the road.

Fred Omondi succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The rider, however, sustained severe injuries, including multiple fractures to both legs and hands and was rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital for urgent medical attention. Fred Omondi's lifeless body was also transported to the same hospital's morgue.

Taking to social media, Eric Omondi has shared a heartfelt video with his late brother, accompanied by a poignant message that reads: "My brother, It is not well. God receive you, till next time. Go well, brother."

This incident has cast a spotlight on the dangerous conditions faced by bodaboda riders and their passengers in Kenya. Although bodabodas offer an affordable and accessible mode of transportation, they are fraught with significant risks due to factors such as lack of proper safety gear, inadequate training for riders, and the general chaos of urban traffic.

Tragically, accidents involving these motorcycles remain alarmingly common. As a prominent figure in Kenya's entertainment scene, Eric Omondi has not only entertained audiences with his humour and wit but has also utilized his platform for activism, often addressing critical social issues through his comedy.
