12 Nairobi Areas to Face Water Disruption Until Saturday

A rupture on the NCT–Kigoro–Gigiri–Kabete transmission pipeline has disrupted water supply to multiple areas in Nairobi, leaving thousands of residents and businesses without service.

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) confirmed the incident on Friday, stating that supply from the Kabete reservoirs has been interrupted. Affected areas include Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani, Kileleshwa, Upper Hill, Ngong Road, Madaraka, Nairobi West, Uthiru, Karen, Kibera and Lang’ata.

Repair works are underway, with teams from the Athi Water Works Development Agency and NCWSC deployed to the site. The utility expects water supply to resume by 6am on Saturday, 2 May, once repairs are completed and system pressure is restored. Residents have been advised to use available water sparingly and prioritise essential needs.

To ease the disruption, NCWSC has continued to provide water through tanker services for priority cases. These can be requested via the USSD code *260#, under option 5. The company also stated that water quality will be maintained when supply returns.

The outage comes amid ongoing heavy rainfall across Nairobi and other parts of the country. The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of continued downpours, with flooding already affecting roads and residential areas in the city.

Meteorologists expect the rains to continue into early May before easing later in the month.
