Netherlands Unveils Fully Funded Scholarships for Kenyans with KSh 184k Monthly Stipend
The Netherlands has launched a new set of scholarships for African students to study water and sustainable development, with applications open until 1 June 2026.
The programme is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and delivered through the IHE Delft Water and Development Partnership Programme. It aims to strengthen professional expertise in water management across the Sahel and the Horn of Africa by supporting advanced academic training.
The scholarships include both fully funded and partial awards for candidates from countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Egypt. Successful applicants will enrol in a Master of Science programme in water and sustainable development.
Full scholarships cover tuition fees, insurance, international travel and a monthly allowance of €1,220, allowing students to focus on their studies. Applicants must demonstrate a clear link between their studies and practical work in their home country.
They are required to conduct their MSc research in their region, take part in academic activities, and commit to returning to their country or another priority nation after completing the programme. An endorsement from an employer is also required, reflecting the focus on professionals already working in relevant fields.
All candidates must show proficiency in English, although exemptions apply to applicants from Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda. The selection process prioritises female candidates and those with strong academic records, relevant work experience and clear motivation.
Where applicants have similar qualifications, preference may be given to those who can secure additional funding from other sources. Results are expected to be announced in July 2026.
At the same time, Germany continues to support international students through scholarships offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, these awards provide full financial support for master’s programmes, including stipends and research allowances.
