Kalonzo Appeals for Peace After Seven Killed in Kitui
Seven people were killed in Tseikuru in Kitui County, prompting an appeal for calm from Kalonzo Musyoka.
Kalonzo, the leader of the Wiper Democratic Movement, described the killings as painful and deeply troubling. He warned against retaliatory violence and urged communities to avoid revenge, saying it would only prolong cycles of conflict and deepen existing grievances.
Leaders from neighbouring regions have begun joint efforts to address the situation. Julius Malombe and Nathif Jama Adam are working alongside Enoch Wambua and Abdul Haji to seek solutions.
Kalonzo welcomed their cooperation and stressed the role of local leadership, calling on elders to engage in dialogue. He also said he would travel to Mwingi to support peace discussions.
The government has deployed specialised security units, including the General Service Unit and the Rapid Deployment Unit, to Tseikuru and nearby Ukasi. Their role includes strengthening security, escorting vehicles along the Mwingi–Garissa Road, and pursuing those suspected of involvement.
The National Police Service said the killings were isolated criminal acts and warned against linking them to ethnic or communal tensions. Investigators and intelligence teams are following leads, and police have stated that those responsible will be arrested and prosecuted.
