Oburu Oginga Builds Strategic Power Base Ahead of 2027 Elections

Siaya Senator Dr Oburu Oginga has transformed the Pawaa Centre on Riverside Drive, Nairobi, into a hub for political and diplomatic engagement.

Since its launch in March 2026, the centre has hosted a series of high-level meetings with foreign diplomats and Kenyan government officials. British diplomat Dr Ed Barnett met Dr Oginga to discuss governance and trade, while Russian Ambassador Vsevolod Tkachenko explored educational and cultural cooperation.

South Africa’s Deputy Minister Kenny Morolong engaged in talks on digital security and trade, highlighting the centre’s growing role in international relations.

Kenyan officials have also held consultations at Pawaa Centre.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi and Treasury Principal Secretary Dr Chris Kiptoo discussed sector-specific issues, while Interior PS Raymond Omollo addressed regional security and identity registration. Other meetings have covered health, justice, telecommunications, and trade, reflecting a growing dialogue between ODM and President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in preparation for potential coalition arrangements ahead of the 2027 elections.

Observers note that Pawaa Centre closely resembles Raila Odinga’s former Capitol Hill office, which served as an unofficial centre of opposition power. Dr Oginga appears to be adopting a similar approach, focusing on strategic planning and alliance-building rather than mass mobilisation. His position as a link between ODM and the Kenya Kwanza administration places him at the centre of key political negotiations.

The move from the smaller Orange House and Bunge Towers to a purpose-built facility signals both Dr Oginga’s elevated role and ODM’s intention to project authority. Technical committees are already developing a roadmap for a pre-election coalition agreement, with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja emphasising the importance of cooperation between ODM and UDA for maintaining political influence.
