Ruto Pledges Sh1 Million Each Ahead of Mbavu Destroyer vs Majembe Fight
President William Ruto and Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, known as Jalango, shared a light-hearted exchange ahead of the “Vurugu Fight Night” boxing event at Kasarani Indoor Arena, adding prominence to the headline bout between Majembe and Mbavu Destroyer.
The two spoke at State House, where the President joked about Mbavu Destroyer’s training style, referring to him as “huyu wa kuweka mawe,” in reference to his use of stones during training. Jalango responded in a similarly humorous tone, and both men laughed during the exchange. Ruto also pledged Sh1 million to each fighter, wishing them well ahead of the contest.
The fight is scheduled for 10:30 PM on 4 April at Kasarani. It is organised by promoter Oga Obinna and is intended to raise the profile of local boxing while providing opportunities for the fighters. Support for the event has come from several public figures. Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri contributed Sh2 million, businessman Oketch Salah added Sh200,000, and Pastor Dorcas Rigathi purchased 400 tickets worth Sh400,000.
Corporate backing has further increased interest in the event. Odi Bets has announced a Toyota Noah as the prize for the winner of the main bout. The involvement of sponsors and public figures has strengthened the scale of the contest.
The event also includes entertainment, with DJ Afro expected to provide commentary. The contest between Majembe and Mbavu Destroyer remains the main attraction, with anticipation building ahead of the scheduled fight.
