Uhuru: My Wife Doesn’t Speak to Me When We Quarrel

President Uhuru used himself and First Lady Margret Kenyatta as an analogy to explain the current political situation in the Central Kenya region.

While addressing leaders drawn from the Mt Kenya region at Sagana State Lodge on Friday, Kenyatta appeared to reprimand aggrieved leaders from his backyard who are fighting him and his administration.

Kenyatta likened the situation to the disagreements between him and his wife, explaining that quarreling does not give him the excuse to run away from his home. He said aggrieved leaders should strive to seek solutions instead of openly going against him.

"My wife sometimes gets agitated to the point of not speaking to me. I never run away from home but instead seek to solve those problems,” Uhuru noted.

A section of central Kenya leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have shown open defiance against President Kenyatta over his dalliance with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The leaders have pledged their loyalty to DP Ruto, vowing to resist any attempt to sideline him ahead of the 2022 elections. They have also been pushing Kenyatta to restate his promise to back Ruto’s presidential bid in the next elections.

But Kenyatta insisted that his unity deal with Odinga is not centered on 2022 succession politics but uniting the nation.

“Being in power means nothing when peace is elusive. And that is why I said I should look for the other man [Raila Odinga] so that we can bring political stability in Kenya,” said Kenyatta.

He added: “Even in my handshake deal with Raila Odinga, I did not tell him that I will support him should he express interest in the presidency in 2022. The resolution of our meeting was that we prioritize peace in Kenya.”
