DCI Summons Three Cabinet Secretaries over Alleged Plot to Kill Deputy President Ruto
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday morning summoned three Cabinet Secretaries over an alleged plot to eliminate Deputy President William Ruto.
The three CSs including Peter Munya (Trade) Joseph Mucheru (ICT), and Sicily Kariuki (Health) are accused of holding secret meetings at one of the hotels in the city to plot Ruto's assassination.
Addressing the media at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road on Monday, the three CSs confirmed they had been summoned after a letter detailing their alleged meeting at Hotel La Mada on Thika Road circulated online.
CS Munya also said the DCI informed them that DP Ruto had made a call alleging that there was a plot to kill him.
The CSs termed the allegations as wild and unsubstantiated, stating that they have never met to discuss Ruto.
“These are very serious allegations especially coming from the person of the stature of the deputy president occupying an extremely powerful and important office in this land,” said CS Munya.
“I think it is irresponsible, unfair and intended to portray us in a very bad light so that we look like criminals who meet to plot criminal activities against him. It is also intended to injure our reputation as law-abiding citizens.”
The three said they did not record statements with the DCI since no one had filed a formal complaint besides Ruto's call.
“The standard procedure is that if someone makes an allegation of that nature, he is required by law to record a statement; the deputy president has not recorded any statement,” stated Munya, who spoke on behalf of the CSs.
“We have made it clear that at no time have we ever met anywhere – not just in La Mada, anywhere else – to plan to kill the deputy president or any other person for that matter,” he stated.
“But to avoid speculations, we have been having meetings, indeed we had a meeting in La Mada, and we’ll continue having meetings because under the Constitution of Kenya there is freedom of association and expression.”

Nimemwomba Ndugu Ruto ajishughulishe na jambo hili bila kupata majibu yoyote. Ni lazima tujue ya kwamba MWUMBAJI MKUU aliwaomba binadamu kuwa sawasawa kila mahali. Lakini kwa sababu ya majivuno ya binadamu, binadamu wengine wanafikiri ya kwamba ni bora kuliko wengine.
