Britain-Born Kenya Midfielder Zech Obiero Completes Loan Move to Tranmere Rovers
Kenya U20 international Zech Obiero has joined Tranmere Rovers on loan from Leyton Orient until the end of the 2025/26 season.
The 21-year-old midfielder will remain at Prenton Park from 2 February to 31 May, with no option for a permanent transfer included in the agreement. He is expected to return to Leyton Orient at the end of the loan spell.
Obiero has progressed steadily through the English football system. He developed in Tottenham Hotspur’s academy before moving to Leyton Orient at the age of 14.
He signed his first professional contract in 2022 and gained senior experience through loan spells at Cheshunt and Chelmsford City. This season, he has made eight appearances for Orient prior to the move.
Tranmere manager Andy Crosby has highlighted Obiero’s energy, technical ability and attacking qualities as key attributes that will strengthen the squad during the latter part of the League Two campaign. Leyton Orient head coach Richie Wellens has stated that regular playing time is essential for the midfielder’s development and views the loan as an important step in his progress.
Obiero has expressed his intention to contribute with goals, assists and consistent effort. He has indicated that the move is focused on gaining experience and improving his performance level.
At international level, Obiero is eligible for Kenya through his father, former international Henry Obiero. He has represented Kenya at U20 level and recently made his senior debut under coach Benni McCarthy. With Kenya preparing for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, he aims to establish himself within the national team.
Standing at 1.70m, Obiero is known for his technical skill, dribbling and ability to link midfield and attack.
