Kibera Family Seeks Government Help After Daughter Goes Missing in Saudi Arabia
A family in Kibera, Nairobi, is seeking government assistance after their daughter, Hellen Ayuma Busiega, went missing in Saudi Arabia, where she had travelled for work.
Hellen left Kenya in August 2022 through an employment agency and was placed as a domestic worker in Jeddah. Her relatives report that she was moved between several households under the supervision of a local intermediary. During this period, her health began to decline.
According to the family, Hellen became increasingly weak and eventually lost her ability to speak. Their last contact with her was through a short video clip that showed her in a frail condition and struggling to communicate.
Before receiving the video, the family had been contacted by a woman who said she had found Hellen abandoned on the streets. The caller, identified as “Sweetkiller,” stated that she had taken Hellen to hospital for treatment.
However, the family has raised concerns about the nature of the medical care she received and the reasons for her rapid deterioration. Hellen’s sister, Christine Asiko, questioned the circumstances surrounding her condition and the treatment provided.
Her aunt, Violet Kageha, called on Kenyan authorities to intervene and help determine Hellen’s whereabouts. She said the family wants confirmation of whether Hellen is alive or deceased so they can have closure.
In Kibera, the family continues to hold meetings as they seek official support. Their immediate priority is to establish Hellen’s fate and bring her home.
