Former US Soldier Rebuilds Life in Kenya After Leaving Business Career

Sharan Queen, a former US soldier and successful businesswoman, has relocated to Kenya, choosing a lifestyle focused on health and well-being over career ambitions.

Queen spent years managing a chain of spas and multiple enterprises in the United States. Despite outward success, she struggled with severe inflammation, painful ulcers, and chronic stress.

The cumulative impact on her health eventually forced her to step away. “It got to a place where I almost died,” she said, reflecting on the turning point that led her to leave her high-pressure life behind.

Her departure was not only professional but personal. Queen temporarily distanced herself from her children and granddaughter to prioritise her recovery and self-discovery.

She travelled across Africa, including Nigeria, The Gambia, and Botswana, before settling in Kenya, where she felt an immediate sense of belonging. “The moment I landed on African soil, I knew I was home,” she said.

In Kenya, Queen has established a calmer daily routine centred on intentional living. She has launched a beauty products business, which has been well received locally. Her monthly expenses include approximately KSh 100,000 for rent, KSh 7,000 for electricity, KSh 2,000 for water, and KSh 20,000 for food. She describes this lifestyle as both manageable and fulfilling

“I didn’t just move. I found peace,” she said, emphasising that Kenya represents both a new home and a renewed life.
