Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno Dies in Nandi Helicopter Crash

Johana Kipyegon Ng’eno, the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr, died on Saturday afternoon in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County. Five other people were also killed in the accident.

President William Ruto led tributes, describing Ng’eno as a committed public servant whose advocacy for justice and equity earned respect across political lines. In a condolence message, the President extended sympathies to the families of all those who died and to the residents of Emurua Dikirr.

He noted Ng’eno’s support for local development and his efforts to promote talent within his constituency. National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula formally informed Parliament of the MP’s death.

He described the loss as significant for the House and highlighted Ng’eno’s leadership as Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works. During his tenure, the committee oversaw the passage of the Affordable Housing Act, 2024, legislation aimed at improving access to housing.

In the 12th Parliament, Ng’eno also served on the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee. Born in 1972, Ng’eno was serving his third consecutive term in office, having first been elected in 2013.

He held a Bachelor of Arts in International Law from Kyiv TSN University, a Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Nairobi, a Bachelor of Laws from Mount Kenya University, and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. In September 2025, he was admitted to the Bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

Speaker Wetang’ula appointed a parliamentary team led by Tinderet MP Julius Melly to coordinate funeral arrangements with the family. He conveyed condolences to all those affected by the crash.

Ng’eno was regarded as a vocal and active legislator, particularly on housing reform and local development initiatives. His death leaves Emurua Dikirr without its elected representative as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
