How to Check KCSE 2025 Results Online

The Ministry of Education has released the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results, covering 993,226 candidates who sat the national examinations.

The announcement was made by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, marking the conclusion of the examination cycle and setting out key performance statistics as the country continues its transition away from the 8-4-4 curriculum.

Accessing Results

Candidates can access their results through the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) online portal. Results are available immediately by entering the candidate’s index number and one registered name. The system is intended to improve efficiency and limit reliance on printed result slips as part of broader digital reforms in examination management.

Gender Balance and Performance Trends

Female candidates accounted for 50.46 percent of the total candidature, exceeding the number of male candidates for the second year in a row. This reflects sustained parity in access to secondary education at the national level.

A total of 1,932 candidates attained an A plain grade, up from 1,693 in 2024. Despite the increase, A grades represented less than 0.2 percent of all results.

National schools produced 1,526 of the top grades, with extra-county and private schools accounting for a significantly smaller share. The distribution highlights continued variation in outcomes across school categories.

University Entry and Overall Attainment

The number of candidates qualifying for direct university entry increased in 2025. A total of 270,715 learners achieved a mean grade of C+ or higher, representing 27.2 per cent of the cohort. This was an increase from 25.6 percent in 2024.

Overall performance also showed incremental gains. About 50.9 percent of candidates attained a grade of C- or above, while 63.7 percent scored at least a D+. The results indicate gradual improvement in general attainment, alongside a wide spread between top and lower grades.

Transition from the 8-4-4 System

The 2025 KCSE cohort is among the final groups to sit the examination under the 8-4-4 education system. The last KCSE examination under this framework is scheduled for 2027, the same year as Kenya’s next general election.
