Five Killed in Texas Plane Crash Carrying Child Burn Victim

A Mexican Navy aircraft on a humanitarian mission crashed into Galveston Bay in Texas on Monday afternoon, killing at least five people, with one person still missing.

The aircraft went down near Scholes International Airport in dense fog while transporting a child who required urgent treatment for severe burns. Flight tracking data shows the final signal was recorded at 15:01 local time (21:01 GMT) over the bay.

The mission was being carried out in cooperation with the Michou y Mau Foundation, a Mexican charity that supports children with serious burn injuries. The organisation confirmed its involvement and expressed condolences to the families of those who died.

Emergency services responded immediately after the crash. Mexican naval authorities worked alongside the US Coast Guard to search the area. Two people were rescued from the wreckage, while divers and emergency teams continued operations in difficult conditions.

Footage from the scene showed the aircraft partially submerged in the bay, with responders entering the water to search for survivors and recover debris. Local yacht captain Sky Decker assisted by transporting police officers to the site before helping with rescue efforts. He said he found a woman alive inside the aircraft and helped bring her to safety.

The Mexican Navy later confirmed that one person remains unaccounted for. Search operations continued as conditions allowed. Investigators are expected to examine the role of the heavy fog and assess whether mechanical or operational issues contributed to the crash. Authorities have said their immediate focus remains on recovery efforts and supporting the families affected.

In a statement, the Michou y Mau Foundation said it would continue its work supporting children in need of specialised medical care, while recognising the loss of life during the mission.
