Memoir of Former CS Sicily Kariuki Reflects on an Alleged Plot to Kill Ruto

In her recently published memoir, "Breaking the Illusions," former Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki sheds light on Kenya's turbulent political landscape during her time in office.

According to Kariuki, the sensational allegations of a secret meeting among Cabinet Secretaries to plot the downfall of then-Deputy President William Ruto in 2019 were a reflection of the growing divide between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy's faction. Kariuki recalls her surprise when she received a call from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) regarding the alleged conspiracy. She describes it as an "unthinkable" accusation, one of the most serious that a person could face. However, she remains puzzled by the incident, suggesting that it may have been a result of the strained relationship between the highest levels of the presidency.

Despite being encouraged to provide a statement at the DCI headquarters alongside her fellow Cabinet members, Kariuki declined. She explained that since there was no official complaint, she believed it was necessary to authenticate the purported evidence before cooperating with the investigation. The evidence, in this case, was simply a letter circulating on social media. Also, Kariuki reveals President Kenyatta's mysterious phone calls to his inner circle before making important Cabinet announcements. These enigmatic conversations left her contemplating their meaning and purpose, especially when they preceded significant announcements.

To gather different perspectives on the corruption scandals, Kariuki shares her own experiences and thoughts on the allegations. She suggests that her strong stance against corruption may have made her a target of false information, causing unwarranted scrutiny from the President. Looking back on her time at the Health Ministry, Kariuki acknowledges that even Cabinet Secretaries who were detached from financial matters were not immune to accusations of wrongdoing.

She implies that allegations of misconduct often overshadowed their actual efforts, which eventually led to her being transferred to the Water docket.
Adding a touch of humour, Kariuki shares stories of being called names like "Thatcher" and "CoB" (Close of Business), highlighting her reputation for demanding efficiency. Furthermore, she discusses her role in putting a stop to a performance by Congolese artist Koffi Olomide in 2016 due to a dispute within his group. She also recounts how, despite facing two unsuccessful impeachment attempts, some Members of Parliament later approached her to apologize for their misguided accusations.

Throughout her memoir, Kariuki blends informative insights and captivating anecdotes, giving readers a captivating glimpse into the inner workings of Kenyan politics and her personal experiences navigating its complexities.

I don't care for koffi music but she did wrong to send him back after a scuffle. Women in power failure again. Music concert being an economic venture she should have let him perform then make a statement at police then decide to judge him or settle with his dancer amicably esp since he came with her.
Mayweather in Vegas: judge had to keep him outside of jail due to huge financial impact of his impending fight on the city then settle his stuff after the fight. Common sense that lacks in women

I would like to read this book. I followed her tenure especially in the water ministry.
I wonder if she mentioned anything about the Dandora waste treatment plant land (about 2500 hectares) and her role in the efforts to stop the land grabbers who had been allocated fake** titles to the land. The original mother title of the land had been issued in Jomo Kenyatta tenure.
I felt this was a pivotal moment in her career because she was part of the Gov. team who tried to save the land from the grabbers.

Personally I feel I would have acted in the similar way she did by fencing the land and regazzeting the land as govt. land.

Unfortunately the Kula Kwanza gov. Have degezzated the land again and handed it to the grabbers.

Another note, I think the inner circle she is talking about that Pres. Uhuru was consulting may have included Raila.

I honestly like how Uhuru never used to trust just one source of information, he always had people outside the govthe consulted. As a leader it is very important to consult widely and have informed people with opposing views who you consult with regularly. When the the opinions and noises gets too loud and it starts causing embarrasment and potential backlash you act based on full informationon on subject matter. I think Uhuru was a genius in this regard.

A quick source of information could be just taking questions and asking questions or concerns from the media personell you meet everyday.

The book is just purely uncollaborated gossip from a former cabinet secretary who was mostly left out of important issues because she could not be trusted. She is just talking nonsense to sell the little book. Presidents all over the world call cabinet secretaries to discuss issues of public importance. Kariuki did not understand that basic fact either!

Those who don’t believe that Ruto is liar are fools… No one in this world can lie the way Ruto does. Sicily Kariuki is just bitter she did not get a chance to steal as much as she wanted because Uhuru kept her under strict control. She is now verbally diarreahring like a lone monkey lost in the woods. She is the kind of people no one wants her working with them. Loose mouth type that is all about me, myself and I kind of junk.

Kariuki was one of the most corrupt cabinet secretaries among her peers during her time. Uhuru should have fired this mortar mouth woman all together.

Folks like Kariuki lacks the organizational skills when it comes to running a government. She has a very poor understand of politics! The woman did not understand the management of a government, and she also failed to understand that Uhuru gave her the privilege to serve Kenyans. She instead ended up stealing everything she could find in the ministry of health.. Kariuki would not have been able to deal with the occurrence of Covid 19 and many Kenyans would have died because of her incompetence!..

Sicily would not have been elected as the governor of Nyandarua. She does not have what it takes to become a governor and she he people knew that fact. So, stop blaming Uhuru of all your failures because you ain’t good at all!

I blame Uhuru for the failure to take out Ruto. It would have saved Kenyans the pains they are going through today! Uhuru was such a gentleman!!!!

Politicians lead a very desperate life. They turn against each other when the going gets tough. Kariuki is just trying to relive a life she has already lost. She will do anything possible to tarnish all those who made her before she sinks into the pit of depression and alcoholism.

Nothing this woman says is believable! She is just following Moses Kuria’s script as she hopes to get some government job from Ruto for telling some nonsensical lies. .

Cisilly needs a big Muturi inserted in her dirty mouth to shut her off. She makes all women look cheap and stupid.

Kariuki needs a “Mutura” more than she needs a “Muturi”! The Mutura may fill her empty stomach and calm her psychotic explosions.
