Man Charged for Demanding Sh35 Million Not to Leak Nudes of Former Girlfriend Set to Marry New Lover

A man was on Wednesday arraigned before a Nairobi court for allegedly threatening to leak nude photos of his former girlfriend. 

James Muchunu Maina is alleged to have demanded millions of shillings from the woman, failure to which he would release her naked images before she marries her new boyfriend.

The court was told that he asked the woman to give him Sh35 million for him to erase the pictures from his mobile phone. Maina had initially demanded Sh20 million.

The charge sheet read that he sent the woman a text demanding the amount on July 10th this year, contrary to section 299 of the penal code. 

“(Sh) 20 million na io ni juu am fair, you want to become a wife who is clean? No add 15m more. I want (Sh) 35M. 35M for you to become his wife, a clean wife,” the text read.

The two were in a love relationship until mid-2018 when they broke up with Maina resorting to using the images taken when she was naked and asleep to threaten his former girlfriend.

The accused had sent one of the photos to the complainant to prove that he has her pictures while naked on his bed.

Maina who appeared before Kibera law court principal magistrate Derrick Kuto was charged with demanding property with written threats.

He pleaded not guilty and was released on a Sh500,000 bond and an alternative cash bail of a similar amount. The matter will be heard from October 30th.
