Kenya’s Eric Omondi Wins African King of Comedy Award in New York

Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi scooped two top awards at the 5th annual Africa Entertainment Awards, USA (AEAUSA) on Saturday.

Omondi, 42, took to social media to express his joy after bagging the Best Comedian in Africa award and the African King of Comedy award during the gala held in New York City.

“The president is now king. Every obstacle be it human or object, bow down; Best Comedian Africa, African King of Comedy,” Omondi wrote on Instagram.

In October last year, Omondi won the Best African Comedian award at the 4th annual AEAUSA held in New Jersey.

He beat other popular comedians including Nigeria’s Basketmouth, Salvado of Uganda and his compatriot Chipukeezy to bag the prestigious award.

Omondi has built his reputation as one of the most celebrated entertainers in the continent and beyond through frequent shows abroad, especially in the United States.

I have to be the only one who does not find this guy funny. I realize that his brand can cross over...but hammo, adhis, mammito are better improvisors. How he beat basket mouth? I don't know. Or is this organized by lakeside folks? And where is Kaansime. Heck Trevor Noah is the King.

Kudos to Eric, but I much as I do not know the criteria for selection, I see not how he is the Best in E.A. - the silliest maybe. The problem with much of our comedians is that they are good, actually great, but their span is only at the national level.

Africa Entertainment Awards, USA (AEAUSA) being held in New York? What would happen if it was held in the great continent of Africa?
This guy is average though he does put a lot of effort into his "mini series" on YouTube. Perhaps he should be on TV. Or maybe he should do stand up comedy more.

@ Mugukuyu, i thought of that then realized that those who consume these jokes are mostly in the USA.I believe that there is one for africa as well.
May be my "funny gene" has not mutated enough to the level of modern homo sapien. I dont find most of these jokes funny at all.Its usually at most 2 out of ten.
