Kibra MP By-Election: Ken Okoth’s Brother Imran Clinches ODM Ticket

Bernard Otieno Okoth, popularly known as Imran, will fly Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) flag in the Kibra parliamentary by-election scheduled for November 7th.

Imran, who is the younger brother to the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth, was declared the winner of Saturday’s ODM nominations after garnering 4,382 votes.

He defeated nine other aspirants who were eying ODM ticket with Peter Orero emerging second with 1,218 votes while John Otieno was third with 906 votes.

Other aspirants were Ben Musungu (524 votes), Christone Odhiambo (417), Tony Ogola (381), Stephen Okello (228), Brian Owino (127), Reuben Ojijo (52) and Eric Obayi (45).

If his nomination is not challenged before ODM election dispute tribunal, Imran will lock horns with footballer McDonald Mariga of Jubilee Party, Eliud Owalo of Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford Kenya’s Khamisi Butichi.

The Kibra MP seat fell vacant following the death of Ken Okoth who succumbed to colorectal cancer while receiving treatment in Nairobi Hospital on July 26th, 2019.
