President Uhuru Delivers Sh100 Million Gold to Tanzania President Magufuli

President Kenyatta on Wednesday sent a delegation to neighboring Tanzania to deliver gold worth more than Sh100 million to President John Magufuli.

The 35 kilograms of gold, which was impounded at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in 2018, was delivered to President Magufuli at Tanzania's State House by a delegation led by Kenya's Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma.

Others in the Kenyan delegation included Attorney General (AG) Paul Kihara, Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.

The consignment was seized from a 46-year-old Tanzanian national on February 21st last year. Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) said the man had landed at JKIA from Mwanza via Kilimanjaro and was heading to Dubai.

KRA customs officials also seized an invoice of $859,890 (Sh87 million) during the arrest.

“This will not only promote the war against illegal trade between the two countries but also sends a strong message of cooperation in the fight against crime,” President Magufuli said while receiving the consignment.

During the handing over ceremony, Magufuli received a phone call from President Kenyatta and put him on a loudspeaker.

“My brother, I say we continue working together and Kenya and Tanzania has no borders as we agreed. We should help one another to fight corruption and to return money stolen from our people so that we build roads and connect our people to electricity,” Kenyatta said on phone.

This is very encouraging especially between African nations. This will really help our brothers and sisters in Tanzania and especially with the able and admirable leadership of Magufuli.
This is where Africa needs to be, where "I am because we are, and we are because I am". African nations need to seek help from one another before seeking help from without.
This is a very good example of what the relationship between African nations ought to be.
