We Will Win the War on Corruption, President Kenyatta Declares

President Kenyatta has exuded confidence that his administration will stamp out corruption.

Speaking during the State of the Nation Address on Thursday, Kenyatta says the government will use all available means to fight the vice.

He has also outlined some of the strides his administration has made as far as the war on graft is concerned.

Uhuru says that it is under his leadership that the "big fish" have been targeted.

“There will be no turning back in the War against Corruption and Impunity. There will be no sacred cows, no compromise. The fight against corruption is a fight for the soul of our nation,” he says.

“This is one war, Ladies and Gentlemen, I am certain we will win.”

Uhuru says that seven current and former Governors and more than 30 heads of State Corporations are currently facing corruption charges.

He also points out that his administration has recovered assets worth Sh2.5 billion and is currently pursuing property worth Sh7.5 billion.

“In the reporting period, the Asset Recovery Agency has investigated 20 cases and preserved assets worth Ksh.1.1 billion. Assets worth Ksh.72 million were forfeited to the government. Further, recovery proceedings of corruptly acquired property valued at Ksh.7.5 billion were instituted."

“Additionally, assets worth Ksh.2.5 billion were recovered while bank accounts holding Ksh.264 million were frozen, pending determination of recovery proceedings,” he says.

Kenyatta has also revealed that the government is now focusing more on asset recovery in addition to prosecuting corruption perpetrators.

He has further declared that any government official charged with corruption will lose their jobs.

Declarations upon declarations. You are the only one believing this Uhuru. When assets worth trillions are recovered, then we shall start talking. Until then, continue recovering the crumbs and bragging about it.

He doesn't mean Kenyans. He is talking about his relathieves. They will win the war on corruption. He gas no shame telling the suffering Kenyans that. "Mnataka nifanye nini". Pombe tu while everyone around is looting the country.

Mr. President, talk is cheap. Kenyans are tired of your lullaby on corruption and need action now. How are you going to stamp out corruption without bringing in new strategies and mechanisms that will work this time around? Saying that government will use all available means to fight the vice is completely meaningless unless you also explain why these government means haven't worked yet or why such means were not available before-if they were not. Truth is, over 50 percent of our people live between hand and mouth. No healthcare, no proper education and no clean water for most Kenyans. Amidst all these hardships are the thieving, looting corrupt elites who happen to be your friends, appointees and civil servants. Exotic vacations, high end vehicles, cocktails and all manner of extravaganza is how public stolen money is wasted! No, we need more: news stiffer sentences for corruption, immediate freezing the accounts of the so called big fish once apprehended and they should be banned from ever holding a public office in the country once convicted. All stolen money with penalty and interest should be taken from their estates. Whenever we think about these corrupt animals, we should always think about our starving children and their missed opportunities. Some of us grew up during Moi's thieving regime and a lot of money that could have helped us in health care and education was stolen in corruption- which is today the money Gideon Moi and others flash around today; riding private helicopters. We shouldn't allow what belongs to our children to end up becoming the estate of our leaders that they will pass on to their children.

In other news, the toothless dog barked once again today after which it wagged it's tail and scuttled away. More barking is expected in the next few months. With bated breath, Kenyans are waiting for increased barkings in the near future.

Figuratively speaking "Dua la kuku halimpati mwewe". This is loosely "A chicken's prayer doesn't affect a hawk". The corrupt are like the hawks and unless one day the chicken get to fly, the hawk will keep snatching the chicks for breakfast, lunch and supper! With these iterations of promises one can only hope that one day the chicken (read we the downtrodden) will fly and deliver justice to the hawk (read corrupt). I remember (in my childhood days) the frustration on the faces of our mothers when the hawks repeatedly snatched the chicks despite their howling, screams and rushing the hawk. Since the chicken cannot fly as yet, the option may be to cage the chicks, get a witch doctor or better still get village-smart boys armed with catapults to bring down these hawks. Otherwise ngonja ngonja huumiza matumbo and mwishowe we may be left a shell of ourselves like a broody hen with no chicks to raise!

Why then, Mr. President, haven't we seen 'real' thieves thrown into prison and their ill-gotten wealth repossessed and designated to a NEEDY project? I want to know where each recovered asset, sold off at Ksh.xxx went to....don't just tell me it was recovered.. lest it disappears like the Ngirichi money in a bank with computerized system. Or hype some arrest and they you investigators tells us NO EVIDENCE is found... WHO IS FOOLING WHO?
IT DOESN'T LOOK GOOD for you, Mr. President.
