Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria Responds to President Kenyatta's "Washenzi" Remarks

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has responded to President Kenyatta following his "washenzi" remarks on Monday afternoon.

Taking to social media hours after Kenyatta's remarks, Kuria has insisted that President Kenyatta has locked Central Kenya region out of the government's development agenda.

MP Kuria maintains that Mt. Kenya lacks development despite being President Uhuru's political stronghold.

“Mt Kenya region also deserves development just like any other region," states Kuria in a post on social media.

“H.E the President is 100% right. He is spot on. We need development in every corner of this country. It is in that spirit and in line with the President’s position that I believe Mt Kenya region also deserves development just like any other region. Right now it’s not happening,” said Kuria.

Speaking in Mombasa on Monday, President Kenyatta has described MPs accusing him of neglecting his political backyard as "washenzi", stating that his aim is to make sure every part of the country benefits from government's development agenda.

“I am not a person who is easily scared… Those going around playing petty politics I want to tell them this. We will not launch development projects based on which region a leader comes from. We want all 45 million Kenyans to benefit, we want all corners of this country to grow,” says Kenyatta.

“We want a country where every single citizen is entitled to development regardless of where the leader comes from. Kwa hivyo hao washenzi waachane na mimi…(Let those stupid people leave me alone).”

Kenyatta was addressing MPs Moses Kuria (Gatundu South) and Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati), who have accused him of neglecting Central Kenya region despite overwhelmingly voting for him in 2013 and 2017.

MP Kuria accused Kenyatta of turning his people into voting machines saying that he only goes to Central Kenya to issue certificates to rehabilitated addicts instead of launching projects as he does in other areas.

“We have been rendered into voting machines but development is channeled elsewhere; we must shelve that nonsense."

“I want to tell the President to launch water, new roads, and electrification projects. We were with him in Kisumu where he launched new roads but coming to Kiambu, he only issued certificates to rehabilitated alcoholics,” said Kuria.

On the other hand, MP Ngunjiri said it is during Kenyatta's regime that Mt. Kenya residents have suffered most.

“If Uhuru is tired, let him call for elections for the presidential seat. Our people are crying all over, they have no lives. There is no government that has pushed the Kikuyu community to a tough corner, politically and economically, than this (Jubilee) government,” said Ngunjiri in a press briefing on Sunday.

kuria..always pulling the tribal card! For one so young, you are truly living in the past. Kenya is more that any one tribe and each deserves a seat at the high table! As for Uhuru calling people washenzi…… not cute for a leader. He rolls with the likes of Sonko and babu when he goes this low. C'mon now!

Dada @Sukari, umesema kweli. Matusi, kupaza sauti (yell) au kupigana, siyo njia nzuri ya kuwasiliana na binadamu au kuyatatua (solve) matatizo ua umma (public).

If we have mps in mt kenya region, why are they not bringing this issues with president?, or they expect the presidsent to call them and see what they need. Each county has a governor, dont expect the president to develop your area, your constituents expect you to do this for them and thats why you were elected.

Kuria said what is in the mouths, minds and ears of kikuyu nation. Kikuyu nation is asking for its share of development in whatever metrics is being used to award other regions. Is it implied that the developed areas have no other needs? if we have electricity we may be lacking water; if you have water you may be lacking roads; if they have roads they may be lacking market for their produce and the disparity continues. So by development its not one-size-fits-all. If Mt. Kenya has electricity, does it mean they will have to wait (20 years)for every other region to get electricity first before they can ask for another development project? yet they are productive and paying their taxes. That model of development is a sham for redistribution for growth.
Back to my village days, when I was growing up, parents had this weird preferential treatment for visitors (both real and imagined). There were new spoons, plates, cups, sufurias beddings etc that were reserved only for guests while the household used unhygenic decade-old wares. Worse still was that own family could not eat before the guests had had their full. There was surveillance and an invisible patrol by the host to ensure none of the household kids got closer to the high table lest the guest offers a piece of chapati or chicken to the home's embarrassment. So this weirdo of "putting up appearances" and insatiable desire to please others is ingrained in our society and is afflicting the region. The fairest thing we can do is to belong and accept our own. As they say "even the fairest thing in nature, flower has its roots on earth and manure".
And as the bible says in Matthew 5:24, "leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift".
Another one is to the effect that "For if a person does not love his brother, whom he has seen, then he cannot love God, whom he has not seen"- and by extension cannot love his neigbour.

@Mugikuyu: Unakumbuka mkristo (ruto) alisema ya kwamba yeye hana helikopta, kwa hiyo anapotaka kusafiri, hukodesha (rent) helikopta ya Kuria!

@Mugikuyu: Umesema kweli kabisa.
