Gov't Changes Tune, Announces New 2-6-6-3 Education System Will Be Rolled Out in January 2019

The government now says that the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) will be rolled out from January 2019.
This comes days after Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed announced that the implementation of the new 2-6-6-3 education system had been pushed to 2020 to give the government and stakeholders more time to set up the required infrastructure.
Amina also said this would allow the government to train and hire more tutors ahead of the rollout of the curriculum.
However, in a statement dispatched to newsrooms on Saturday, CS Amina says the government has decided to commence a “methodical and carefully organized phased roll-out” of the new education curriculum to replace the current 8-4-4 system.
She says the implementation will begin with pre-primary I and II as well as Grades one, two and three.
“Early in the New Year, the Ministry of Education will issue a detailed roll-out plan and timetable for the other grades that will lead to the last cohort of pupils sitting for their Kenya Certificate of Primary education (KCPE) in the year 2023 and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in the year 2027,” says CS Amina in a statement.
She further states that a National Secretariat will be set up to steer the roll out of CBC and prepare curriculum designs for Grade 4 by March 2019.

No madam CS, issuing the statement when everyone is headed for holidays gives no time for public discourse or input to what affects the country's future in just a matter of weeks. The back-and-forth in the roll out plan casts doubt on the quality and integrity of the new system. We need urgent and radical personnel changes in education ministry; we need firmness of Matiang'is and no nonsense of Michukis in running this crucial ministry. Someone need to intervene and ask some tough question on what exactly is going on in MoE. House committee? senate? someone? help.
Our global competitiveness is in the quality of our youths education much more than in extractive resources.
In a rush to meet self imposed deadlines, the ministry should not throw the baby out with the bath water.

Amina needs to be given light duties like Waiguru. Flip flopping is dangerous. We should not allow cartel to control ministry of education. She caved in to cartels who have been given tender to supply books and other learning supplies. Matiang'i is the source of all this problems when he decided to change the education system without plan & preparation. Fire Amina, fire Amina
