Citizen TV Journalist Jacque Maribe, Fiancée Joseph Irungu Charged Afresh with Monica Kimani’s Murder

Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe and her fiancée Joseph "Jowie" Irungu have been charged afresh with the murder of business lady Monica Kimani.

This comes after High Court Justice James Wakiaga allowed the prosecution to amend the charge sheet to include other suspects not present in court.

Maribe and Irungu will remain in custody until Tuesday, October 30th when the court will issue a ruling on their bail application.

The prosecution has urged the court to deny the two bail arguing that they have been charged with a capital offence. They further argue that investigations are still ongoing and the accused persons could interfere with key witnesses lined up against them.

The prosecution has also described 1st accused person (Irungu) as a flight risk due to the nature of his work that indicates that he has traveled to Middle East countries. They further submit that Irungu has refused to cooperate with the police and has given false information.

On Maribe, the prosecution says she could use her association with influential persons including politicians to interfere with and intimidate prosecution witnesses. They also say the news anchor's affidavit is not entirely truthful.

“The rights of the accused and the rights of the deceased must be balanced as well as securing the evidence that will be rendered by the Prosecution,”the prosecution says.

However, defence team led by lawyers Katwa Kigen and Cliff Ombeta have opposed the prosecution’s submissions, saying that they are insufficient to deny their clients bail.

Maribe is currently detained at the Lang’ata Women’s Prison while Irungu remains at the Industrial Area Remand Prison.

Really drama for what ? They will soon get out. They knew with the initial charges was to allow them walk out free. Why amend charges ?

The two ought to have been beheaded instead of giving the person who hired them a chance to bribe for their freedom. They will be acquitted if he is not charged.
