Kenya’s Valary Jemeli Wins Frankfurt Marathon Title

Kenya’s Valary Jemeli Aiyabei on Sunday won the 2019 edition of the Frankfurt Marathon after leading from gun to tape.

Jemeli fended off stiff competition from Ethiopians to complete the 42-kilometer race in 2 hours 19 minutes 10 seconds.

Ethiopian’s Alemu Kebede settled for silver after clocking 02:21:10 while her compatriot Wondimagegn Assefa came in third in 02:22:11.

Kenyans Lonar Chemtai and Rotich Cheptanui finished fourth and fifth after crossing the finish line at 02:23:11 and 02:24:42 respectively.

In the men’s race, Kenya performed dismally with Martin Kosgey settling for fourth place behind Ethiopians Bekele Terefa (gold) and Arega Dawit (silver) while Burundian Yiwere Aweke clinched bronze.

Terefa hit the tape in 2:07:08 while Dawit clocked 2:07:10 and Aweke 2:07:12
