Arsenal Fans and Kikuyu Elders Honour Raila Odinga in Bondo

Arsenal Football Club supporters and Kikuyu elders gathered on Sunday at Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County, to pay tribute to the late Raila Odinga, who died on 15 October 2025.

The commemoration took place at Opoda Farm, Raila's ancestral home, and brought together Kenyans from across the country to honour a leader whose influence extended beyond politics. Raila's well-known support for Arsenal FC was a central feature of the gathering.

Fans from different regions visited his gravesite, celebrating his shared passion for football that connected him with many ordinary Kenyans. In a message from Arsenal Fan TV, Raila was remembered as “a true Arsenal supporter… his legacy lives on among the Arsenal family and across Kenya.”

Earlier in the week, a delegation led by Ndia Member of Parliament George Kariuki and elders from the Kikuyu Council of Elders visited the Odinga family in Bondo. They were received by Dr Ida Odinga and Raila Junior.

MP Kariuki praised Raila's role in maintaining national unity, saying he consistently chose dialogue and reconciliation during moments of political tension. The visit by the Kikuyu elders was seen as a gesture of goodwill and national solidarity, reflecting Raila's legacy as a leader who sought to bridge Kenya’s ethnic and political divides.

Mourners continue to gather at Opoda Farm and Kang’o ka Jaramogi to pay their respects.
