Uhuru, Matiang’i Attend Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta made a rare public appearance on Friday at the Jubilee Party’s National Delegates Conference (NDC) held at the Jockey Club, Ngong Racecourse.

Uhuru arrived in a black Toyota Land Cruiser and was welcomed by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, and other senior party officials. His handshake with Dr Matiang’i at the entrance signalled a moment of unity as delegates gathered for a day focused on reconciliation and party renewal.

The conference brought together hundreds of delegates dressed in Jubilee’s red colours, underscoring a shared commitment to the party’s revival. The NDC comes amid a prolonged leadership dispute, with internal divisions intensifying in recent years. A rival faction led by nominated MP Sabina Chege and EALA legislator Kanini Kega has challenged the party’s leadership structure, prompting a drawn-out battle over its control.

Uhuru's appearance is widely viewed as an effort to reassert his authority within Jubilee and offer direction ahead of the 2027 General Election. He is expected to lay out a framework for restoring party unity and strengthening its position in Kenya’s evolving political landscape.

Dr Matiang’i’s potential role in Jubilee’s reorganisation remains unclear. His recent nationwide listening tour and consultations with former Jubilee lawmakers have raised speculation about his future leadership prospects. According to Kioni, these engagements were instrumental in shaping the agenda of the NDC.

“This gathering is more than preparation; it is a reaffirmation of our commitment to unity, renewal, and a politics defined by purpose,” Kioni said earlier in the week.
