Man Sentenced to Prison for Stabbing Lover’s Rival Over Affair

Nakuru is dealing with the aftermath of a tragic domestic incident after a local security guard, Cyrus Rono, was convicted of murder for killing Moody Mukutsa. The incident took place last August at Rono’s home in Lanet. According to court records, Rono returned home to find Mukutsa with his wife. A confrontation followed, during which Mukutsa suffered more than thirty stab wounds. The prosecution argued that the severity of the attack showed clear intent to kill.

Justice Samwel Mohochi agreed, saying that the extent of the injuries demonstrated clear premeditation. Forensic evidence from pathologist Dr. Titus Ngulungu confirmed the brutal nature of the wounds, including fatal injuries to the head caused by both sharp and blunt force.

Corporal Julius Rop, one of the officers who arrested Rono, testified that Rono confessed to the killing while on duty. Mukutsa’s body was found at Rono’s residence, and the alleged murder weapon was recovered from an associate named Chege. Investigating officer Joseph Ngure described the serious injuries on the victim’s head and limbs.

Rono claimed he acted in self-defence, saying he was provoked when Mukutsa appeared from under a bed holding a knife. However, the court rejected this claim, finding that Rono’s response was excessive and not justified. Justice Mohochi ruled that the defence failed to prove sufficient provocation and that the prosecution had established guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
