Detectives Suspect Inside Job in Sh11 Million Barclays Bank ATMs Robbery

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched investigations into the theft of over Sh11 million from four Barclays Bank ATMs in Nairobi.
Nairobi County Police Commander Philip Ndolo says investigative authorities suspect an inside job since none of the four ATMs were broken into. Ndolo also says only Barclays Bank has the keys to the machines.
Investigators have also raised questions on why it took the bank's staff more than five hours to report the incidents, which happened on Saturday morning.
Thugs stole millions from ATMs at Mutindwa in Buruburu, Kenyatta National Hospital and The Mater Hospital in South B.
Sh6.3 million was stolen from Buruburu ATM, Sh4.3 million from KNH machine and Sh1 million from The Mater Hospital facility.
Police say there was no surveillance camera at the Buruburu ATM, which was also unmanned at the time of the robbery.
CCTV camera at South B's machine was smeared with petroleum jelly which blurred the footage, police say.
In a statement on Sunday, Barclays Bank confirmed the robbery incidents, saying it's working with authorities to nab those involved.
“We can confirm that there has been theft at 4 of our ATMs in Nairobi. We are working with the investigative authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice,” the bank says.
