Sudan to Hand Former President Omar al-Bashir to ICC to Face Trial

The Sudanese government is set to hand over former President Omar al-Bashir to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to face trial.

Sudan’s Foreign Minister Mariam al-Mahdi on Wednesday announced that al-Bashir will be handed over alongside other officials wanted over the Darfur conflict.

Bashir, who ruled the country for 30 years before his ouster in 2019, faces charges of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity in Darfur.

Sudan State media reported that the Cabinet resolved to hand over wanted officials to The Hague-based international court. The development comes amid ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan’s visit to Sudan.

Along with three officials, Bashir was indicted by the ICC on charges, including war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity. The handover will end Bashir’s trial on corruption and other crimes in local courts.

The ICC issued a warrant of arrest against the 77-year-old in 2009 but he has never been put in custody since then.

Data by United Nations indicate that 300,000 people were killed during the 2003 Darfur conflict with 2.5 million others displaced.

Human rights groups accused Bashir and his former aides of using a scorched earth policy, raping, killing, looting, and burning villages during the conflict.

DP Ruto will be joining him there soon! Let them pay fir the crimes they have committed on others! That is only fair regardless of who is administering justice - black or white!

The problem is that those who look like hive want to look the other way and let him of the hook by politicking his crimes of passion!

With all the crimes he had committed, He was a great friend of Moi and Kibaki. They used to accord him presidential treatment to the chagrin of the rest of the world. Kabuga, another instigator of Rwanda genocide was Kenya’s guest for many years, abetted by Ruto to live a luxurious life in Kenya. Those who hid him have also been accused at the ICC for genocide. We protect thieves, murderers, suspected terrorists, rapists, drug kings, name them. I thank God, ICC exists, otherwise our leaders would be rogue, killing and causing human havoc at will.

While we as Africans organize ourselves let us send the murderous leaders to Hague. For example, there is someone in particular who was behind Kiambaa Massacre, where women and children were burned alive. Those who escaped were grabbed and thrown back into the gushing fire. People, hard working people lost their properties. Survivors have not been resettled yet. Like someone has indicated justice is justice no matter where it is executive.

Well @conmen! He committed crimes against humanity like you bloody brother committed crimes against humanity by burning kikuyu women and children inside Kiambaa church in 2008. Gicheru will tell the truth and Ruto will have his time at The Hague to explain everything he did in 2008. I’m glad to see some sort justice being delivered in Sudan. The same thing need to happen where Ruto is handed to the ICC to pay for his immoral crimes! The African courts are made of criminals who can’t convict any guilty person because it is all about justice for sale! That is why we have to deliver the criminals to The Hague to face real laws for justice to be delivered to the victims!!
