Two Armed Gangsters Gunned Down While Preparing to Stage Robbery in Ukunda

Two armed criminals were on Friday morning gunned down by police officers in Ukunda, Kwale County.

The two were shot dead by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) while allegedly preparing to stage a robbery in the coastal town.

The sleuths encountered the two suspects while on patrol in the area and ordered them to surrender but the two defied the orders, forcing the officers to fire at them.

They are believed to be part of a criminal gang behind a spate of robberies reported in Diani township and its environs in recent months.

The gangsters were armed with crude weapons, including knives, machetes, and an imitation of a firearm.

The DCI says ballistic experts are examining the gun recovered to determine whether it is capable of firing.

Detectives also recovered assorted cell phone handsets believed to have been stolen from victims of crime.

Scenes of crime officers have since documented the scene, while the bodies of the two were taken to Kwale Sub-County Hospital Mortuary pending identification
