Kenyan Cop Who Raped Pregnant Woman Who Went to Report Case at Police Station Jailed for Life

A Kenyan police officer who was on Wednesday found guilty of raping a pregnant woman who had gone to report a case at Lamu Police Station has been jailed for life.

Rodgers Ouma, 28, was handed the sentence on Friday by Lamu Principal Magistrate Allan Temba after he was convicted of rape and abuse of his position of authority as a police officer.

“He will also serve 10 years for abuse of authority and pay Ksh. 400,000 damages to the victim,” the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) said in a statement on Friday.

The court ruled that the prosecution proved that Ouma lured the victim to his house at Langoni Police Lines where he sexually assaulted her.

The court heard that the 26-year-old woman had gone to the police station on December 8th, 2019 to report that her husband was trying to force her to take abortion pills in order to terminate an unwanted pregnancy.

As she returned home after filing the report at around 8 pm, Ouma stopped her and after perusing through her complaint, he offered to help her solve the matter.

Since it was raining and the two were heading in the same direction, the officer offered her shelter in his house for rains to subside. Ouma took advantage of the situation to sexually abuse her.

You do the crime you do the time. No sympathy from here. I wish the judges went after all the other economic criminals as well as all those crook politicians the same way. We need some brave judges.
