Chopper Carrying Two Senior Police Officers Crash-Lands at Wilson Airport

Two senior police officers escaped unhurt after a helicopter crash-landed at Wilson Airport in Nairobi on Saturday.
The police chopper of registration 5Y-SFA (Mil Mi-17 Hip) fell meters from the airport’s runway after it allegedly developed a mechanical problem while preparing to land.
The helicopter had three occupants including a chief inspector, an inspector attached to the Kenya Police Airwing and a flight engineer.
Reports indicate none of the occupants was injured in the Saturday afternoon accident. The aircraft had arrived from Liboi in Garissa County and was repaired and cleared for take-off after the incident.
This incident comes days after an aircraft operated by Safarilink skidded off the runway at the same airport on landing from Lamu.
In a statement, the local airline said the aircraft of registration number 5Y-SLJ veered off the runway at 6:20 pm on Tuesday after a wheel burst.
“Our aircraft a Cessna Caravan C208 registration 5Y-SLJ had a tyre burst on landing at Wilson Airport at 6.20 pm. We can confirm that there were no injuries and that the aircraft was procedurally removed from the runway,” read part of the statement.
The flight was carting 10 passengers and two crew members.
