Ian Churman Kengen and Audrey Chemutai Rutto's wedding was a joyous celebration that defied geographical boundaries and paid homage to their cherished Kalenjin cultural traditions.
Despite residing in Australia, the couple's profound love for each other and their heritage shone brightly throughout their wedding. Their love story began in 2018 when they first crossed paths at a local church during Audrey's visit to Ziwa village in Kenya. Though initially separated by distance, their connection rekindled in May 2023, leading Ian to propose to Audrey on January 27, 2024, marking a momentous breakthrough in their relationship. Before their grand wedding, the couple honoured the traditional Koito ceremony on April 3, 2024, via zoom.
This was followed by an engagement party in Audrey's hometown of Adelaide on April 4, where their families and friends gathered to commemorate their love and commitment. On June 2, 2024, Ian and Audrey exchanged vows in a resplendent ceremony held in Sydney, Australia. The multicultural celebration, attended by 350 guests, predominantly Kenyans, was a vibrant affair infused with Kalenjin ceremonial songs and dances, creating lasting memories for all in attendance. The couple's parents were present, bearing witness to their children's union, which transcended geographical boundaries.
Ian and Audrey expressed their profound gratitude for the successful event, acknowledging the blessings bestowed upon them by God. The smooth planning process and the support from their loved ones made their wedding day truly special and unforgettable.

Times have changed. Some of the customs, mores and traditions that made sense yesteryear may not be relevant today, and we should discourage them. One of them is this practice of buying a human being under the guise of culture.
Just stop and question the relevance. You dont see luos knocking their front teeth any more, but I bet at one time it was a source of pride. Even tribal marks are quickly disappearing.
Folks this has nothing to do with emulating or borrowing from a foreign culture. It is simply questioning why we do what we do-SCIENTIFICALLY- and objectively.I think any act that does not make human sense should be discarded.Like female genitalia mutilatilation, or drinking camel urine...
Yes we should also ask why we speak English,or wear Mzungus nguo and yet we don't live where he lives; unless you are in diaspora of course. He did not force us. Yes we see value in what he is doing and then we copy. Unfortunately, we copy somethings that make us look stupid;like bleaching our skins,or straightening our natural kinky hair.
To me come-we-stay is the best union. You do not have to involve the whole world. It's cheap and offers all the benefits of an expensive wedding without the expenses. And when you are tired of each other, you part ways. Again cheaply.
Yes we should stop hanging on these vestiges of past ages. We need a new model of "marrying" or mating..Obviously the current one is failing miserably. What say you people?
Don't judge/gauge someone heritage/culture with individual's lenses...you Cant use your religion to dictate how yours is better than them...keep it off..
Dowry is okay. The only problem is when some cultures commercialize it due to greed.. that makes a good thing look bad. Zungus in Arkansas and West Virginia do massive incest and even the whole US they don't care to check if they are blood related before marriage. Same with Muslims marrying cousins and that's their culture despite kids disabilities as a result. To each their culture and life goes on
Awesome preservation of our rich heritage. Don't wazungu impose their uncultured behavior in our lands too?Way to go brother and sister.
He is paying money for another human being like he is buying a cow in an auction. You own that item that you have to pay money to acquire it. I hope she will be all “yes Sir” because the guy fully owns her. These old time traditions are archaic and outlived the time!
Dowry is primitive as ice age!!!
