Electric mobility firm MojaEV Kenya on June 28, inaugurated its flagship showroom in Nairobi.
As the exclusive distributor of Neta Electric Vehicles in Africa, MojaEV aims to transform Kenya's transport sector by promoting eco-friendly solutions. The launch is timely, coinciding with ongoing global discussions on climate change and carbon emissions. Wilson Sun, executive vice president of Neta Electric Vehicles, underscored the pressing need to address carbon emissions. Kenya, as the economic powerhouse of the East African Community, is strategically positioned to lead the adoption of sustainable transport alternatives in the region.
Kenya has already taken steps towards reducing emissions with a draft e-mobility policy in development as of April 2024. This policy seeks to tackle key challenges in the sector, including the establishment of sustainable supply chains, secure data management systems, efficient charging infrastructure, and the promotion of local manufacturing and assembly of electric vehicles. MojaEV Kenya CEO Wang Aiping expresseS eagerness to collaborate with stakeholders in Kenya's growing e-mobility sector. The Association of Vehicle Assemblers (AVA) has emerged as a crucial partner in this endeavour.
The registration of over 13 electric vehicle companies with local assemblers indicates the sector's significant growth potential. The Ministry of Roads and Transport emphasizes Kenya's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The transport sector is a major contributor to these emissions. As Kenya continues to experience economic and demographic growth, the electrification of transport becomes crucial in achieving the climate goals outlined in the Paris Agreement. Kenya's electricity capacity, which currently exceeds demand, positions the country favourably to support the increased power requirements of electric vehicles.
Mr Wang reaffirms NETA's global commitment to sustainable mobility solutions, stating the company's intention to advance technological frontiers and expand its presence across Africa. To make electric vehicles more accessible to Kenyans, MojaEV Kenya plans to retail Neta Electric Vehicles at prices ranging from 4 to 4.5 million Kenyan shillings. This pricing strategy aims to contribute to a cleaner and greener future by bringing electric vehicles within reach of a broader segment of the population.
