Diaspora Affairs Team Saves Kenyan Woman Found Stranded in Malaysia
The Kenyan High Commission in Kuala Lumpur has assisted a Kenyan citizen, Olivia, who was found stranded and in distress at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Wednesday, 25 February.
She was taken to a medical facility for treatment, and her family has been notified of her condition. Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu confirmed the intervention, commending the quick response of the mission staff.
"Our Kenya High Commission in Kuala Lumpur quickly intervened and rescued Olivia. She is receiving medical treatment, and the family is informed. Great job, team," she said.
Airport authorities discovered Olivia in a confused state, unable to provide clear identification but communicating fluently in both Kiswahili and English. Concerned Kenyans on social media had earlier called for government assistance to ensure her safety, highlighting the power of online mobilisation in diaspora matters.
This incident has prompted officials to remind Kenyan citizens travelling abroad of the importance of registering with the nearest Kenyan mission. PS Njogu underscored that registration via the government's diaspora portal could help embassies respond more effectively in emergencies.
