IEBC CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan Steps Down After Mutual Agreement

Marjan Hussein Marjan has stepped down as Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) following a mutual agreement with the Commission's leadership.

The decision, announced on Tuesday, marks the end of his more than ten-year tenure at the electoral body. IEBC Chairman Erastus Ethekon described the departure as amicable and noted that it aligns with ongoing reforms within the Secretariat. Ethekon also commended Marjan for stabilising the Commission during a period of leadership vacancies.

Marjan joined the IEBC in 2015 as Deputy Commission Secretary and served as Acting CEO from 2017 until his confirmation as the substantive CEO in March 2022. His professional background includes over two decades of experience at Telkom Kenya, where he held senior roles in internal audit and investigation. Marjan holds a Bachelor of Commerce and an MBA in Strategic Management from the University of Nairobi, along with several professional certifications.

During his tenure, Marjan led the Secretariat in overseeing the Commission’s day-to-day operations, including preparations for the 2022 general election. His leadership was credited with providing stability during a challenging period in the institution’s history.
