Kenyans in the Middle East Urged to Stay Alert, Share Contact Details with Embassies

Kenya's diplomatic missions are intensifying efforts to safeguard their citizens in the Middle East as escalating tensions between Iran and the United States heighten regional instability.
The Kenyan Embassy in Doha is urging all Kenyan nationals residing and working in Qatar to register with the mission, ensuring rapid and coordinated assistance should the security situation deteriorate. This appeal follows heightened precautions by the Qatari government, including a temporary closure of its airspace on Monday, 23 June, in response to Iranian threats of retaliation.
The broader geopolitical volatility, notably involving Iran and Israel, continues to ripple throughout the region. While the situation in Qatar remains relatively stable, diplomatic sources underscore the vital importance of preparedness.
A statement from the embassy urges Kenyans to "remain calm and follow the official guidelines issued by Qatari authorities," reaffirming that "Qatar remains secure and responsive." The embassy requests detailed personal information, encompassing residential and employment details, alongside contact information for two next of kin, one in Kenya and one in Qatar.
The call for vigilance extends beyond Qatar. On Saturday, 21 June, the State Department for Diaspora Affairs issued similar guidance to Kenyans in Iran and Israel. Stressing the significance of swift access during emergencies, the department has instructed citizens to ensure their records with respective embassies are up-to-date.
"For your safety and to ensure we can assist you promptly in case of any emergency or distress, we kindly ask you to register your details with the State Department for Diaspora Affairs," the department noted.
Nationals are further advised to keep essential documents accessible and avoid non-essential travel. Kenyan diplomatic missions in Tehran and Tel Aviv maintain accessibility, providing telephone contacts and email addresses for direct communication.
"Please ensure you're registered with the Kenya Embassy in Doha for timely updates and support," the Embassy reassures. "This information will be kept entirely confidential for official use only."
