Man Suspected of Killing Wife Arrested in Mlolongo While Attempting to Commit Suicide

A 43-year-old man accused of killing his wife before going into hiding has been arrested while trying to commit suicide.

Harrison Mutisya Muiva was arrested at a lodging in Mlolongo, Machakos County on Friday after unsuccessfully attempting to take his own life.

"It was reported to Mlolongo police station on 01/04/2022 at 0530 hours by one Margaret Nyambura, a lodging attendant of Miniamax Swallows, that there was an unknown person who had lodged in room number 3 on Thursday and had collapsed at the door with foam emanating from the mouth and nose," Athi River DCIO John Kanda said.

The criminal investigations officer said detectives rushed to the scene where they recovered sachets of poison in the room where Mutisya was found.

Mutisya, who was being sought by detectives for murder, was rushed to Kitengela Level 4 Hospital where he was treated under police guard.

The suspect is said to have hacked his wife Faith Mutinda, 35, at his parents’ home in Kalama, Machakos County last Friday.

Detectives believe Mutinda, who was an auditor at Kenya Railways, was hacked using a panga, which was recovered at the scene of the murder.

“The deceased had multiple injuries on the head, the neck and the stomach, which are suspected to have been inflicted by the sharp object presumably the panga we found hidden in a pit latrine,” Machakos DCIO Simon Waithaka said.

An autopsy conducted on her body revealed that she died of severe bleeding following multiple deep cut wounds inflicted on her body.

The deceased's car, a Mazda CX5, was found abandoned in Makueni County on Wednesday. The suspect is being detained at Mlolongo police station awaiting arraignment.

The word homicide is a common term for a human being losing a life through the hands of another human being. With the endemic killing of wives in Kenya we are now witnessing, I decided to google the killing of wives and I found out it is called 'Uxoricide". We need to address uxoricide with the same anger we address corruption in Kenyan society. It is a national crisis.

@ MarkOyango, if you have been following social evils in Kenya as Iam sure you have, and noticed as well that , this criminal act it on the rise. Both Mariticide and uxoricide appear to be on the increasse, but more so men killing their wives, girlfriends, and women who reject them.
Men, especially those raised in patriarchal society send to view women as "property" their for they control their property. This control is exacerbated by the buying of wives.See men who pay for women will look at a disobedient wife as "damaged item" that needs knocking here and there to put them inline.
Therefore, we need to address how men should treat women in out society. We should treat them with respect, and value them as our mothers.Above all they have human rights too.

@ MarkOnyango, what you have said here is what compels agood number of diaspora not to frequent their motherland. Its has become ,"aforeign country". It seems like all the morality, ethics, respect, values have gone down the drain, or the very least, they have become a choice...Family unity is no longer what it was 30 years ago and beyond.
Society as large used to police its moral conduct, and behavior .Now days, even the neighbor does not want you to" meddle" in his or her business, except when in danger, which is usually late as in the case of the store here.
