Kenyan Couple Arrested over Accidental Killing of Daughter During a Domestic Fight

Police in Narok County are holding a man and his wife following the accidental killing of their eight-year-old daughter during a domestic fight.

Amos Maengwe (30) was reportedly beating his wife Esther Kaiseyi (21) with a wooden object when he missed the target and instead hit the girl on the head.

While taking the minor to the hospital for medical attention, the couple ran into police officers, who helped them rush the child to Kilgoris sub-county hospital.

Upon arrival at the facility, doctors tried to attend to the girl whose condition had worsened, but unfortunately she passed away while undergoing treatment.

The two were arrested and booked at Kilgoris police station awaiting arraignment in court as investigations continue.

The incident happened at the couple’s home in Majengo estate in Kilgoris town on Monday night.

Why should she not be arrested? You are assuming the she had nothing to do with the child's death. They were fighting, and who knows if she ducked the swing knowing the child was nearby,or used the child as a shield, hoping that, that would deter the husband.
Anyway, its not good to beat your spouse. So unfortunate the child paid for their"stupidity" with life.

@Maxiley it's one thing of she was using the child as a shield but I don't think she has a duty to get hit. Even so, the man was the perpetrator of the violence. Primary responsibility for this is with the husband. He is the one who was attempting to batter his wife. When all is said and done, there is a good chance this violence will be over some minor thing and a child is dead for it.

@Mungumugo,certainly the man is the one who killed the child. No argument about that. Iam responding to the question why the woman was arrested ...
Of course as always, the first hand information is usually not detailed or accurate is some cases. There is agood reason why she was arrested...The cops may tell us.

Wife was a victim as well. She is 21 for heavenly sake. The man is a full adult. Why marry a kid who is still developing! Even the cerebral cortex frontal lobe part of the brain is barely mature for good decision making, skills and problem solving. The development and maturation of the prefrontal cortex occurs primarily during adolescence and is fully accomplished at the age of 25 years. Then he beats her for not being able to keep up with adult duties and taska. If that wood had hit her, it could have killed her as well. Sad. Shindwe kabisa!

@ Licilici, ignorance coupled with male chauvinistic tendencies and culture that oppress women, this kind of men will thriving. They have no respect for law anyway,at least when it comes to how they should treat their women. Therefore, your biological explanation of brain development and maturity has no bearing on them.
The wife is at least a legal adult at 21. Remember we still have older men marrying pubescent girls, despite it being illegal.Sadly,it is encouraged by parents who yank their kids from primary school to marry them off to older men for bride price, under the guise of "our customs" Very sad indeed. Its all on men to chance. Hopefully education, and laws will make this retrogressive behavior a thing of the past.

Quite an unfortunate situation. Poor child had to be the victim. why even fight infront of our children. These are innocent souls that need to be protected but unfortunately we stupid adults drag these kids in our messy situations.
Marital violence is on the rise..why not just walk away than fight....and at the end of it all when all is said and done, this young woman will go back to the so called husband.and the cycle continues

I mean violence is violence and unacceptable. That's said why do a man need a wooden object to fight his own wife and for what?
Even if they didn't end up in jail, how does it feel to have killed your own daughter as a collateral sacrifice at the altar of interspousal combat?
