Girl Who Scored 401 Marks in KCPE Repeats Class 8 After Missing Out on County Scholarship

A girl who scored 401 marks in the 2020 KCPE exam has been forced to repeat Class Eight due to lack of school fees.
Diana Nyokabi’s parents are unable to raise the Sh53,554 required for her admission to Moi Girls High School, Eldoret.
Her dream of joining the prestigious high school was shattered after she was knocked out of the county scholarship program under unclear circumstances.
Nyokabi, who hails from Bungoma, was among the top performers at Bungoma D.E.B. Primary School in last year’s KCPE exam.
Her mother Priscilla Nyanchera enrolled her back to Bungoma D.E.B Primary School on Wednesday.
“I have been selling groceries for a very long time and educating my daughter hoping that in the future she will be able to assist me,” Nyanchera told Citizen Digital.
The teenager had been selected to benefit from the Bungoma County scholarship program under Governor Wycliffe Wangamati but her name was mysteriously expunged from the list.
Nyokabi and her family appealed to any well-wisher to help her continue with her studies.
Bungoma D.E.B Primary School headteacher Tobias Khisa said he received the girl back with great shock and fears that her situation may demoralize other learners in the school.

Contacts please?Wangamati continued with Lusaka’s corruption but added tribalism as Nyokabi name suggests the she is a Gikuyu but her mother,Nyanchera is not a Gikuyu. Why should these greedy hyenas victimize an innocent girl who did not choose her parents/tribe?Does the scholarship money belong to Wamangati & Co thugs or to all taxpayers?RISASI TU.

@Maxiley I have told you many times you need to go back and clean that place up and make a difference. They can not be denying qualified kids education.

The primary head teacher is also to blame what is the purpose of her repeating class 8 to raise the average scores for his school while she wastes a whole year of her life.
If there is no money for secondary school you do not go backwards there are still a few technical institutes that accept 8-4-4 leavers or whatever system they currently use in Kenya. This habit of repeating classes is BS it demoralizes the student and realistically speaking at the end of the day if you do not have street smarts your
book smart education will only take you so far.Sell mtumba or groceries instead you will gain more while you look for school fees

Tells you tons about the pea-sized brains running affairs in the county education department. That this can happen in a county that has other so called “leaders” is truly disgusting. My hunch tells me she was relegated to the sidelines to create an opportunity for someone else to benefit. This is why we are a truly a shit-hole country

Its really sad that Kenyan leaders are wasting our youth like this young girl by stealing everything. But this case is an indictment of society as a whole. Are there no church or local NGOs that can advocate better for these poor, bright kids. In diaspora we can pay her fees easily but that will just be a knee-jerk reaction. We need long term policy solutions for such cases!

The move sucks, and it may have been tribally made - her last name betrayed her!
But let us be honest, how many non-Kikuyus are getting scholarhsips in Kikuyu-land? The ugly plot I seen: best educators (teachers and directors) are moved from their home counties to Central. Back then Lugulus, Kamusingas, Marandas were running the show in academia. All those heads were shipped to Central, replaced by non-perfoming Mwangis and Njoroges. Some were even chased away.
So, acheni Bungoma ijienjoy na scholarships zake. Ni hayo tu.

You can blame lazy journalism for bringing out your little, tribal self from the closet... but the girl's name is Nyaboke (Dinah)...Kisii?. Still, according to you, she deserves what she got because she is a (Kisii?) girl in a land full of Luhya girls.

Good news, the scholarship has been reinstated, and few respectable Kenyans have stepped up to make sure she gets her education.
Obviously there was some mischief going on to deny her, this well earned scholarship. The question is, what are we going to do to deter this culprits?
Iam glad for technology. This kind of thing would not have garnered traction 40 years ago....Yes in minutes or even seconds we can expose our devils and our angels for the world to see.
