Sonko Offers to Raise Children Left Behind by Corporal Caroline Kangogo

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has offered to raise the children left behind by corporal Caroline Kangogo, who allegedly killed herself on Friday.

Kangogo, 34, was found dead inside a bathroom at her parents’ home in Nyawa, Elgeyo-Marakwet County on Friday. She is suspected to have committed suicide by shooting herself in the head.

She was wanted over the murder of Police Constable John Ogweno, 28, and 32-year-old businessman Peter Ndwiga Njiru.

Kangogo shot and killed Ogweno at Kasarani police quarters in Nakuru on July 5th before traveling to Juja, Kiambu County where she killed Njiru in a hotel room.

She had been on the run for nearly two weeks before she was found seated in a pool of blood inside a bathroom at her parents’ home. A pistol believed to have been used in the murder of the two men was recovered at the scene.

In her alleged suicide note, Kangogo asked her brother and family to take care of her children as her estranged husband, a senior police officer attached to the Maritime police unit in Mombasa, was too much into mistresses.

“Hi bro, please take good care of my kids. Their father is too much into women because every visit to Mombasa they could vow we go together because daddy’s friends harassed them by calling them names,” Kangogo, who was attached to Nakuru Central police station, wrote.

On Saturday, Sonko said he was ready to raise and educate Kangogo’s children.

“My special request to her innocent family in Elgeyo Marakwet – Kindly allow me to take in the kids if you will find it difficult to raise them or provide their basic needs and education,” Sonko said.

“I will stay and take care of them, ensure that they are educated as they are a blessing from God.”

@guestc - here is the problem - your hero stole everything on his way that belonged to the people. Of course the corruption guilt is haunting him to do something little to deceive the ignorant masses (you included). What Sonko did to embezzle public funds should not be celebrated!

DP Ruto is engulfed in corruption but you folks are still praising him on the streets and in Churches because he is now buying you with your stolen money!

Well, the most renowned world criminals have done the same thing Sonko and others are doing! But they all turned out to be the worst leaders - when given a chance! Evil is evil in whatever form and should never be celebrated by any body.

Well, these rejects will do anything for popularity and political expediency…but who cares? If you really mean to help the kids, DO IT! You don’t have to announce it. I have helped so many destitutes in Kenyan orphanages and never cared for the publicity.

It’s a noble gesture but we all know sonko will do anything for clout. He just wants to stay relevant. The kids have their family just offer financial support and do it without announcing to the world.

All I know he that his gesture regardless of anything is much more noble coz you offered NOTHING! Never criticize anyone making an attempt, what solution do you have? You Kenyans are always NEGATIVE & the day you will bless those doing something is the day you will be blessed. Say something positive for once for a good deed or simply shut up! WE RISE BY UPLIFTING OTHERS!

Say what you may about Sonko, but that's anoble expression from the man. Let's not speculate as to the reasons behind it.It's a kind, and compassionate offer. We have so many big shots in Kenya, richer than Sonko, and all they do is flash their mostly illgotten wealth, ostentatiously to impress neighbors, friends, and women.

@Maxiley the problem with these politicians is they use this as a popularity game and never keep promises. Kids need stability and love and perhaps the father who also loves his slay queens can start doing his parental duties.

Well @maxiley - you don’t Pendle drugs and steal from public coffers to do noble things! And again you don’t go on a spree of crimes killing others so you can have a failed leader to help you educate and care for your children! You know better @maxiley and others since you have been a little exposed there in America. Right! You are the guys we are looking up to to come back here and clean the mess that has been going on for sixty years since independence! So when you call Sonko’s gestures a noble thing, you all lose that illiterate villager very confused! You are just telling him to go steal as long as he is not caught. I support many things you say here but my conviction will not support this one from you buddy!

@maxiley, just imagine your governor in Florida stealing from public coffers? He would be in jail right now! It is hard to overlook Sonko’s criminal behaviour regardless of his kind gesture. You have to lead by example when you are a public official. You do not steal to go sponsor others while secretly seeking favors from those you stole their money, etc!

Grandpa and grandma are still alive! They shouldn’t take money from a thief! Yea h the kids the right ways of life when they are young. Not going to live with someone who has all kinds of issues! You take the money @maxiley since your moral values are below par!

I hope you have helped many in your life! You probably did it and just kept quiet - no public display of your kind actions! But I disagree with you on Sonko! What he CS is doing now is good but that does not erase the fact that he is a thief! He can quietly help others without running to the media every time he helps!

Sonko should concentrate on his drug trade. He has no business with those children whose able/moneyed father is a maritime policeman might be richer than Sonko,Mwau and Kabogo combined. All their ilisit products pass through the AFADI guy. It’s regrettable that expired Kangogo died before she did a favor for her country. She ought to have used her shooting skills to eliminate all the elite thugs and murderers.

God bless Gov Sonko.
I suggest he forms a foundation or trust to help more kids in a structured manner especially orphans.

For those who are not happy with me for calling Sonko's gesture a noble cause, would they rather the family decline his offer? And if they accept is it ethically justifiable? The only reason,I support Sonko is because he is applying very well the principles of beneficence. That's all folks. Should we repudiate the family if they accept the offer?

@maxiley, people are not happy with you because you seem to think Sonko is a good guy because he is giving something back after he stole! The family should reject the money to let the little minds know you don’t go stealing to be famous! The family of these kids is doing just fine. They don’t need a thief to help them out.
