Kenya Extends Daily Nationwide Curfew for 60 More Days

The Kenyan government has extended the nationwide curfew for 60 more days as part of the measures to combat COVID-19.

Through a gazette notice on Sunday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said the curfew will run from 10 pm to 4 am across the country.

“This order shall apply during the hours of darkness between ten o’clock in the evening and four o’clock in the morning with effect from the 28th of May 2021 and shall remain in effect for a period of sixty days thereof,” reads the gazette notice.

CS Matiangi said all public gatherings will remain banned during the period except those licensed by police.

“There shall be no public gatherings, processions or movement either alone or as a group during the period of the curfew except as shall be permitted, in writing, by a police officer in charge of the police in a county or a police officer in charge of the police in a division/sub-county,” the notice adds.

The order does not apply to essential service providers including healthcare workers, security officers, KRA officers, cargo transporters, High Court advocates, among others.

On Sunday, Kenya reported 162 new COVID-19 cases, representing a 4.7 percent positive rate. This raised the cumulative caseload to 170, 647.

16 fatalities were also confirmed, pushing the COVID-19 death toll to 3,157.

Country wide Vaccination is the best way to contain COVID.Curfew is just another avenue of corruption as Uhuru & Co. gangsters are taking loans to run the country but they loot it after paying salaries.Matiang’I also get his cut from every bribe you pay a policeman.
