Kenyan Doctor Wins International Award for Efforts in Advancing Global Health

A Kenyan doctor has received international recognition for her efforts in advancing global health.

Dr. Jemimah Kariuki, an obstetrician-gynecologist at Kenyatta National Hospital, is among the three recipients of the World Health Organization (WHO) Director General's Award for Global Health 2021.

She was honored alongside former US First Lady Rosalynn Carter, and Catalin Denciu, a Romania medic. They were honored during the 75th assembly of the World Health Organisation in Geneva, Switzerland.

Reacting to the recognition, Dr. Jemimah said: "Thank you so much WHO and most especially the Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom for awarding the effort and all my colleagues and partners for making it possible. For the young in society, this shows that you can make it! And to all pregnant women, the world cares about your life."

Jemimah hit global headlines last year due to her efforts in caring for pregnant mothers during the COVID-19 lockdown and curfew. She started Wheels for Life, a free ambulance service for mothers in labor after dark. The program received more than 5,000 calls and delivered over 600 babies.

Congratulations Dr. Jemimah Kariuki. Dr. Kariuki is a wonderful doctor. I think WHO should also have recognized other African doctors who such as Dr. Koni Hanene of Kenya and Dr. Bertha Serwa Ayi of Ghana who have made great contribution towards development of Covid vaccine

It is perfectly fitting for Dr Kariuki to be recognized by WHO!

Those other doctors you have mentioned here will be recognized once they come up with a viable vaccine to control or cure Covid 19!

Did you say Dr Koni Hanene? Please! He is more on Mwakilishi pages with all sorts of negative messages blasting others than he is in the lab looking for covid19 cure! Hanene has abandoned his call to be a doctor to becoming a regular negative message blogger here! No kid would want to copy koni’s behavior and attitude! He sounds somehow pshyco whenever he posts dirty messages here attacking Makau Mutua and others! I always thought he was a crazy negative news blogger!

Koni Hanene be recognized by the renowned WHO for what? For his mad blogging attacking others? Ask Professor Makau who Koni calls gay! Koni is mentally disturbed and crazy! I would not even take a covid19 drug if Koni was the only doctor in the whole universe to make that drug! Yesari, God have mercy! Perfect call @guest2!

Be serious @guest2 when you throw out dr koni’s name as a scientist to be recognized/rewarded by WHO! His writings here defines him as a lunatic doctor with serious homophobic tendencies! I still wonder how the ministry of health have allowed him to be at KIMR labs! This dude deserves no recognition at all! As a matter of fact, he should have been fired long time ago! Koni is unstable and not so intelligent! He is a disgrace to the entire medical community of Kenya!

Congratulations Dr Kariuki! You deserve the WHO accolades! And thank you for the good work!

Where did you get that name Hanene in the avenues of great scientists in Kenya!? Ghee weeez!

This hanene fella ought to be in Jail for insulting Makau Mutua and others! How can you be this wrong @guest2? Hanene is a moron!

You cant even debate this hanene guy to save his character even if you wanted to. Koni should have thought about WHO when he was writing sick messages blasting every body!

WHO reviews the total history of the individual of interest! Please don’t defend a mad man here! The man is not getting recognized by any organization or any body! Ask Prof Makau about this loser!

Thanks guest2 for recognizing my role towards the development of Covid-19 vaccine development. I want to make it clear that I have no intention of suing WHO for not putting me in the list of those it considered for the award. In fact I don't deserve it. Dr. Jemimah Kariuki deserved it more than any other doctor in Africa. I have already congratulated her in person. I see there are few haters in Mwakilishi who thrives in talking negative things about me even though they don't know me. Let those haters know that I am a master of my own destiny. I care less in what they say. My happiness comes when what I do help ensure healthy lives and promote well-being at all ages in Africa. The beat of African drums will never cease in my ears until the goal of universal healthcare is reached in the continent

@koni - who told you that WHO can get sued for meritoriously awarding prestigious recognition to those who deserve them!? You are still beating up empty drums fir yourself! You are not all that intelligent. Are you? Why do you think others are jealous about your little self! All folks are telling you is to behave like a normal mammal!

You never fail to put your very small foot in your damn mouth; do you? I knew it was a matter of a short time you opened your childish mouth to fail yourself!

Your arrogance has failed you several times! Maybe you need to seek advise from Dr Kariuki on how to be a humble servant of the people before you prop your ass to brag! She can also teach you how to be an adult man while she attempts to help you.

And by the way, your insults of others such as Pro Makau and several others caused you not to be rewarded by WHO! You got to act like an adult at times! You ain’t a kid anymore!

Roughly only 4% have received COVID 19 in Kenya which is freely given by other nations!

@hanene, What have you accomplished in over a year that people have died because of lack of covid19 vaccine? We recognize tangible results and not empty ndomo. You talk too much Koni no wonder you never get any work done!

Stop tuning up your own horns while you got nothing to show! You can’t cure the whole of Africa while you are lagging behind or got nothing to show fir Kenya, with a possible vaccine break through! Kinda feel so sorry for those who may depend on you there at Kemri.

I read that silly post by dr hanene himself pretending to be a third party. The guy has some upstairs issues that need to be addressed!

When he writes here that he is not going to sue WHO for not recommending for an award, does he really think WHO will ever recommend him knowing he will try to sue if he loses? WHO is taking notes on hanene reactions here!

Words are very powerful hanene! Stop being arrogant!

Come on Dr Hanene! Do you have to take the bait that easy? These guys are thumbing you here because they know you are of weak mind! Educations is not all in life! You are downing the tools on yourself without knowing!

You need a wife to guide you through your medical career and through life matters. If you have one, she is failing you because you tend to know it all!

Just marry a second or third wife to keep you on line! I mean focused on what matters most - your public image is in ruins, literally!

You can’t be a master of your own destiny while you are creating so many road block along the path of fulfilling your destiny! Or just get a good concubine to guide you in matters of life if the women in your life do not know any better!

Dr Kariuki can possibly spare a few hours to couch you. You need a lot of general couching guy! Stop baiting yourself with your own hook and sink! You gonna drown your boat without knowing! Cool!

If I were Dr Kariuki, I would sit several chairs away from Dr Koni!

The way koni has put it that he congratulated her is not genuine! You can feel the anger and bitterness toward her recognized achievements. You can read malice and jealousy in the way hanene says those words about Dr Kariuki! Kikurachi kimo Nguoni Mwako.

This guy won’t stop at nothing to eliminate his competition to get any recognition! I am just putting it very mildly!

But Dr Kariuki should be very cautiously careful in her dealing with koni. Don’t leave an open drink next to koni! Please!

@Jemima, sister girl! You exactly articulated my thoughts about Dr Hanene! Why did he feel it was necessary to tell the world that he personally went to see Dr Kariuki to congratulate her?

I just feel nervous about the entire situation and Dr Kariuki should not rest easy with Koni! There is something sinister about this guy’s state of mind - not good intents!

Women see through these kinds of men quite easily! What I’m seeing here makes think otherwise about Dr Hanene!

You better care what other men are saying about you! Right now your image is in tatters! No body can trust what you say or trust your work. I will have my boy Chege get me Miti kienyenje to cure Covid because you have failed.

Your mouth is seriously doing you in! You have been sleeping on the job little boy! That’s all I got to say about your blind pride!!

@guest l3 - which covid19 vaccine has been developed by the African doctors you are talking about? Nearly two year are gone by and these African doctors you are saying they should be recognized have produced nothing?

They should all be fired and new doctors put in the positions they hold in those laboratories to get some good research work moving!

Are the doctors you say should be recognized by WHO real doctors or politicians? One of the doctors you mentioned is busy cursing others calling them gay and fargots! Are you kidding me @guest6666?

Now this is a breath of fresh air. I was tired of reading about women conning, and scamming...
Congratulations, you are an inspiration to the young in society as you put it.Yes we are used to seeing such accolades go to gray haired, and tired looking doctors worn down by long hours of work, and experience.

Congrats Dr Kariuki! Thank you for changing the narrative on the current slew of bad news of several Kenyan women doing con business all across the world!

We need this kind of freshness to rebuild the bad image created by the few Kenyan women who are deeply marred in criminal ventures. I was beginning to think someone had poisoned the tap water in Kenya because of the bad news we have recently received here about women doing all manner of crazy stuff!

The little girls are looking for a positive role model all over the country! They will see this good news message when they wake up tomorrow morning and be very thankful that there ys someone out there doing great things!

You are a true role model to all Kenyans and I thank you for doing great things in helping others! This is not a small feat and I once again congratulate you! God bless you!

Mathenge (not verified)     Wed, 05/26/2021 @ 03:21am

And here comes a beautiful lady doctor effecting positive change throughout the entire community (country/world) with great deeds!

Kenyans need to hear more of these positive news. The young girls and boys will look up to you and want to emulate the good example you have set forth!

We have become num about the recent chain link of bad news with our sisters in Kenya! I have been wondering what went wrong and how we can change that bad narrative! Every where you looked was some Kenyan woman conning a Mzungu or some body else with scams!

Thank you Dr Kariuki for changing the bad news with something good! The good has now beaten the evil!

Congratulations Dr!

Job Mutahi (not verified)     Wed, 05/26/2021 @ 03:36am

Believe you me there are still some good women doing great things in Kenya!

I had started getting worried about the recent negative reporting about our women getting involved in all sorts of scams and conmanship!

I had thought the young men looking for suitors are doomed, and must start looking elsewhere because no one single young man deserves to marry a scammer! I for one, I had started looking across the globe for a suitor🤣!

I hope this good message about Dr Kariuki become a beacon of light to help our sisters think positively! I really like this piece of good news because it is good for the entire society! I hope this good news tread continue to happen more often, and that many more women adopt it!

Congratulations!

Mike Thuo (not verified)     Wed, 05/26/2021 @ 03:43am

Here comes a poster girl for good behavior with acts of kindness that touches every life!

It is quite refreshing great news! It has settled my nerves from the recent negative events involving our women! I still believe in HOPE! All is not lost; I say!

Congratulations Doctor! Please keep shining! For sure all is well that ends well!

Matu (not verified)     Wed, 05/26/2021 @ 03:51am

A beautiful doctor doing some beautiful work! She is young doctor who has brought a fresh air of hope! Young girls must look up to her and her work! A great role model to many!

A great break from the bad memes with our women in Kenya! Wow, really wonderful to see the landscape shifting to greater heights!

Congratulations!

Gatheca (not verified)     Wed, 05/26/2021 @ 04:06am

Great to see a beautiful lady with a purpose driven life!

Those scamming women out there must see this humble doctor. No woman has to scan people to make a living (dirty living)! Even WHO recognizes hard working ladies like Dr Kariuki! My heart tells me there many out there like her!

I was beginning to think we have lost our women to all sorts of bad behavior (scams, conning and killing), and I feared out communities were beyond correction! Finito!

This WHO recognition to this good doctor here makes me believe there is some light at the end of the tunnel and beyond! It also brings out the good ladies who keep Kenya on the move! And, she is gorgeous too!

Keep up the good work Dr Kariuki! You have made me hopeful and proud! Congratulations!

I went through all the good readings here but I did not see @ seneca, the luo woman from Massachusetts congratulating Dr Kariuki for her achievements!

I want to thank @seneca for not stepping on her mouth here saying negative things because Dr Kariuki is a kikuyu! Surely you have evolved and have come a long way @ seneca! The tribalist in you is almost dead!

Now I think we can all vote for Raila in 2022 to be a luo president!

Congratulations Dr Kariuki!
