Comedienne Elsa Majimbo Urges Travelers to Boycott Kenya Airways After 'Bad' Experience

Breakout Kenyan-born comedienne Elsa Majimbo has sparked a debate on social media after she urged travelers to boycott Kenya Airways (KQ).

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, the 19-year-old entertainer shared her ‘bad’ experience with Kenya Airways. She noted that the airline left her luggage in another country and only informed her about it 30 minutes after she reached her destination.

“Today morning Kenya Airways left my luggage in another country cause the weight couldn’t enter the plane. I was told this after I waited for my bags for 30 minutes!” Majimbo wrote on Twitter.

She followed this up with another tweet where she explained that despite inconveniencing her, KQ did not bother to apologize, urging travelers to avoid the airline. “No apologies were issued. The plane was incredibly small it looked like a domestic flight one. I would not recommend this airline tbh. For travelers avoid it if you can,” she added.

While some online users agreed with her that KQ offers poor services, a majority said she was wrong to urge customers to boycott the airline.

Kenya Airways has since issued an apology to Majimbo over the incident.

“Hi Elsa, we're sorry for the delay of your luggage. Allow us to follow up on this, to ensure that you're reunited with your luggage soon,” KQ said through Twitter.

Why do we always feel as if seeking accountability and a better service out of an experience is negative? No wonder there is no gradual improvement because we do not ask for better and readily accept mediocre in the name of humility, patriotism etc..

Well clearly you have not travelled, this happens everyday and no one has suggested we should not critic where it is deserved but some criticism are petty and comes off as "showy" esp coming from someone who has only began to fly ..lol... - give me a break ! Yes a little humility and yes we shall continue being patriotic to our Country, we got only one!

Speak for yourself bwana Crocodilian.KQ is one of Kenya’s CASH COWS or MONEY GUZZLERS managed by thieves.I never understand why taxpayers through the useless govt always pour money to save the poorly managed private company.

Yeap, I think her new found fame is getting in to her head. This is such a minor incident to call for boycott.THe luggage is not lost, just delay,Yes an inconvenience. These workers are human beings prone to make mistakes. If she had been pushed out of her seat to let a muzungu sit, then,i would back her totally, financially as well.

Ii'l Kid with no experience of International Travel. Luggage being left behind, or being misplaced, happens to everyone, including celebrities like Oprah Winfrey. Like Miguna Miguna, your pride is getting into your head. My luggage was once left behind by KLM in Amsterdam, but I never once thought about blaming the Airline, because I knew that it was not their fault. Ignorant/Illiterate/Uninformed Elsa Majimbo, please note that Airlines, including Kenya Airways, are not the ones in charge of handling luggage in International Airports, even in Kenya. IATA certifies all procedures followed in International Airports. KQ are not Angels, but they are also not the Devil that this sister is making them out to be. Pride coming slowly and beautifully...

Let's not throw away our home airline. If you enter any Ethiopian Airline Flight, it is Ethiopians in there proud of their country and their airline. We should offer constructive criticism to improve services. Any airline can have luggage going wrong direction, One time I had my luggage go to Nigeria and was flying a very premier airline. Advising customers to shun Kenya Airways is selfish. Love your country, we don't have another Kenya out there, We have the only Kenya we love.

KQ is doing its best in this special times. Please be careful what you say. Sorry for your circumstance but a lot of people have had similar experience. Losing luggage is really bad. Most businesses are at the breaking point due to the pandemic. The more you travel by air the more you will come to appreciate this industry. It is almost a miracle what airlines do on a daily basis.

Every airline has this happen sooner or later. You will even get bumped eventually. To avoid these mishaps, perhaps she should quit flying altogether. Of course, sooner or later matatu itavunjika, there will be a traffic jam and you'll be late, your bicycle will have a flat tire, you might even develop a blister on your foot. On 2nd thought young lady, just give up on travel completely, things might go wrong.

Apparently to the many so-called "experienced" travellers who are putting down this young girl, understand she's exercising HER choice after INDEPENDENTLY coming to that logical conclusion of HER experience based on HER money paid
This mentality of we, us, home-carrier and all smacks of crab mentality, groupthink that is responsible for the mess (actually rot) at KQ. If you choose to offer a paid (consumer) service, then know your consumers (customers) can choose you vs your competitor and vice versa. They are in no way obliged to patronize you. These are the same idiots who run to defend their tribal MP,MCA thief when caught stealing and wonder why things never change.
Yes, she may be young (unexperienced) but I bet you her accountability standards are way higher than yours and she is already on her way to world class airline service, leaving these other old timers to wallow in KQ mediocrity. Treating customers like crap is a no no. Yes bags remain but its the SERVICE that makes a worlds difference.
As for KQ, where do I even begin... Its been insolvent for last 4 years...meaning travellers have already spoken. Yes ET, KLM or even Congo airlines have their home court advantage but at the end of the day, you cant survive if YOUR OWN people (ignore) boycott your services as is happening there. The reasons are many and documented by many analysts and media reports so unless you choose to ignore those too, the signs were always there. Heres a few for those too lazy to google: Rampant nepotism, Lack of professionalism, Inferior customer service thats borderline racism, Pathetic leadership (past and current CEOs) and my fave pet peeve- having one of the most highly paid CEOs- Allan Kilavuka despite such continued terrible financial performance. All this doesnt even include the market forces.
For those who recall during COVID air lockdown, ET ferried off its nationals from many places back home for low fees. KQ despite its new US reach was only doing london to Nairobi at a higher fee than other airlines were offering from the US. In other words, ET was cheaper to fly to Nbi from the US, than that monthly london to Nbi airlift. You still want to call it your national home carrier? Did you know those planes are not owned by KQ but by the banks after it defaulted on its loans??
Anyway, its all moot as the govt wants to merge it with KAA and do some acrobatic stunts to keep it alive. And yes, Id rather shut down that taxpayer losing crapfest and let the flowers use a diff airline than subsidizing taxpayer money annually for these few tourism and flower businesses. Let them pay full fare vs offering an indirect subsidy or do other activities that do not result in a net loss to taxpayers.
And yes stand behind that inexperienced eastlands girls' decision and hire her anytime over these useless dumb pacifists whove made a career in life bending over to the man.
