Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua Arrested over Sh12.5 Billion Tender Scam

Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua has been arrested in connection with a multi-billion-shilling tender scam.

Gachagua was apprehended on Monday by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and was taken to DCI headquarters for interrogation.

Detectives are investigating how Sh12.5 billion was wired to Gachagua’s bank accounts between 2013 and 2020.

The MP is said to have used proxies to fraudulently win tenders in various county government, State agencies, and ministries through 22 companies with him as the sole beneficiary.

Gachagua is also being investigated by the Asset Recovery Agency (ARA), which is seeking to establish the source of the Sh12.5 billion that passed through his accounts.

Gachagua is alleged to have received the funds through three accounts in Rafiki Micro Finance Bank.

The funds were received from the Ministry of Lands (Kenya Informal Settlements Program), State Department for Special Planning, Ministry of Health, Bungoma County government, Mathira Constituency Development Fund, Nyeri County government, and the National Irrigation Board and are suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Investigators established that two hairdressers and a former MPesa attendant were awarded lucrative tenders for the national government and Mathira Constituency Development Fund (CDF) but Gachagua insists the deals are not fraudulent

Over 100 people who did business with Gachagua have already been questioned in the past six months. They include Laikipia Senator John Nderitu who received Sh1.9 million from Gachagua, former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri (Sh5.9 million), Meru Senator Mithika Linturi (Sh1.3 million), and Ruguru Ward MCA (Nyeri) Karanja Muriuki who received Sh11 million.

He should resign his MP seat! Now let us get our money back; all the stolen money should be recovered!

The most unfortunate thing are the voters who glorify these political thieves and keep on calling them muheshimiwa!

There is no a muheshimiwa thief! Voters must change the attitude toward corruption. It is a deadly cancer that is eating away our country as every body watch. Maybe the most poor voters are the encouragers of corruption because they keep extending a hand to the thieves, hence enabling them to steal even more!

Just look at DP Ruto who continues to hoodwink Kenyans with crazy dirty wheelbarrows bought with stolen money! And people, mostly the youth seems to fall fir that shit. It is very strange indeed that people can be this naive!

It is quite evident that many of the current leaders that we have now are not Kenyans. They are Kenyans only by the color of their skin. They are not different from the British who came to Kenya in order to steal the property of the indigenous people. The kind of leaders that we have in Kenya now, I address them as "Wakenyareza." They are Kenyans only by the color of their skin. But they are British in everything that they do such as: their foreign names, language, religious affiliations, culture, and their daily habits. I therefore ask the people of Kenya to be alert and be aware that being a Kenyan is not only defined by their skin color. Being a Kenyan leader is caring about the lives of the many poor Kenyans and making an effort to change their challenging lives to resemble the kind of lifestyles that they lead. Unfortunately, many of the current leaders that we have in Kenya are not different from the British living in the U.K.
