Keroche Director Tecra Muigai’s Family Wants Her Boyfriend Charged with Murder

Keroche Director Tecra Muigai’s Family Wants Her Boyfriend Charged with Murder

The family of the late Keroche Breweries Innovations and Strategy Director Tecra Muigai wants her boyfriend Omar Lali charged with murder, according to reports.

Preliminary autopsy report prepared by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor shows Tecra succumbed to injuries she suffered on the left side of her head.

The postmortem examination was carried out at Nairobi’s Lee Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 12th, with Oduor noting that the injuries are consistent with a fall down the stairs.

Tecra’s parents Tabitha and Joseph Karanja, the billionaire owners of Keroche Breweries, have hired Senior Counsel James Orengo to represent the family in the matter.

While Orengo insists the injuries the deceased sustained were as a result of a push down the stairs, Lali's representatives believe it was an accident, The Standard reports.

The body of the deceased did not have any signs of struggle before death and had no defense injuries to suggest any foul play.

Tecra is said to have tumbled down the stairs at a private house in Lamu in which she was living with her boyfriend. She died while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital on May 2nd, four days after the incident.

Lali, 51, was arrested and arraigned with the court allowing police to detain him for 21 days pending conclusion of investigations into the circumstances leading to her death. The case will be mentioned on May 26th.

Lali has maintained innocence, saying he loved Tecra and did not have any reason to murder her. In an interview with The Standard, he said Tecra died as a result of an accident.

On the fateful night, Lali said he slept on a sofa and left Tecra awake. He added that he only took a little amount of alcohol as he was on antibiotics.

"We woke up late that day, ate our lunch at around 2 p.m. then we each went on to do different things," said Lali.

Lali, a father of five, said he spent a few hours with his daughter and reunited with Tecra at around 6 pm.

"I ordered five liters of madafu and she ordered three bottles of vodka. We had passion juice in our possession too. I was on medication, so I didn't drink as much. I lay on a nearby sofa and dozed off," he stated.

He noted that he was woken up by a loud bang only to find Tecra had fallen down the stairs and was bleeding from her nose and ears.

"I heard a loud thud and a single scream. I looked towards where Tecra was sleeping and found out she wasn't around. I looked towards the staircase and saw her at the bottom. I tried to conduct first aid by fanning her and later tried to resuscitate her," said Lali.

After some time, he said, Tecra regained consciousness but complained of pain on the head and limbs. Lali phoned his brother and they took her to a health center but she was transferred to King Fahd County Referral Hospital after a doctor recommended a CT.

Lali later called Tecra’s sister, Arnelisa Muigai who disclosed that they had spoken on phone at 2:30 am. Tecra was airlifted by Amref to Nairobi for further treatment the following day but she died three days later.

"She wanted us to settle down. I helped her look for a house in Naivasha. But she is gone. Why would I kill her? Why won't people accept God's will? This girl was special. I will never find anyone like her again," said Lali.

Tecra will be laid to rest this week in a private family ceremony in Naivasha.

Tough case. Eventually, truth will come out. Tumble down stairs, while guy was deep in sleep and could not wake Up to assist her is a very long call. I'm with the parents on this one.

If this was Gītheri man the chapter would have been closed and forgotten by now. Unfortunately we are talking of a rich family, one that has enriched itself from selling alcohol. The same alcohol that has killed many Kenyans and yet none of the businesses are ready to support those addicted to their commodity.
This girl downed more alcohol than her big bodied bearded beau could handle and that is why he went to sleep. And of course she continued drinking by herself like it was her last day. And indeed it was.
They should release this man. After all he also has wounds to leak. Total blunder he made knowing well she had a problem but did nothing to help. He knew better but she was also an adult and perhaps the provider of the goodies they both enjoyed and he was in for the ride.
Drink responsibly.
RIP.

Yes, you are very quick to cast a stone, and you are all happy standing in line to get that liquor! And yes don’t lie; we all know you like to gamble with the liquor until you become a drunken stupor!

You can chastise the family all you want for selling alcohol but they never forced anyone to drink. You are probably their number 7 customer in the line of consumption!

Yes the girl had a drinking problem but you cant blame her choices on her family! There is also the first pretty daughter, Arnalisa, who is doing just fine without much hopper! Kids in the same family turn out different!

You can start your own brewery and enrich yourself just like they have done! Don’t be a hypocrite talking of others enriching themselves selling alcohol! What do you do for a living? Prostitution? Give us a break!!

@Kiprotich, I hope one day the "pretty girl Arnalisa" will give you her time of day. Chances are that will never happen and no need to spew the venom, it is life. Get over it.
Take comfort in realizing richness is not about what you have but who you are. And by the way you are not rich until you have something that money can't buy. That includes class and wisdom. Perhaps Arnalisa is looking for that but can't find it in you.

Personally I don't see any concrete evidence to implicate this guy but you never know. The only thing I question is how he was helping her to find a house in Naivasha yet he resides in Pwani. In any case the girl was born and raised in Naivasha from a wealthy family.

Johansen to answer. Was there any sprain on her ankles? What was the content in her digestive system and body fluids in %ge? And CID to ascertain the height and steepness of the staircase frm possible place of tumble to landing. including verifying the alabi by Lali(medication, sleeping). How high was her footwear? What was the time difference btwn the last visitor to the house and the fall Plus how did he (Lali) sound when he made the call to the Sis? Was he calm, anxious, hectic etc. These are the clues.

Pity the greatest source of your wealth also killed your offspring.Waswahili husema “mganga hajigangi”.Maybe it was karma.Alcohol is responsible for many social and economic problems in Kenya and those who have reaped the most profits have done little to address or alleviate these problems like alcoholism, homelessness theft etc.Maybe it is time to give back especially in certain communities where even the population is declining because people would rather spend the day drowning in alcohol than working or procreating
