Kenyan Pilot Arrested at JKIA over Sh39 Billon Fake Military Equipment Tender

A Kenyan pilot has been arrested in connection with the Sh39 billion fake military equipment tender.

Subow Mohamed Ahmed was nabbed by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Saturday morning at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Subow, who works with a local aviation company, is linked to the fraudulent firearms deal involving former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa.

Echesa and his co-accused were charged with trying to falsely obtain Sh39.5 billion from two foreigners by pretending they were in a position to award them a tender for supply of military equipment worth Sh39.5 billion.

The suspects were charged with obtaining money by false pretenses, conspiracy to commit a felony, and uttering a false document, among others. They denied the charges and were released on a cash bail of Sh1 million each.

The DCI did not reveal Subow’s role in the aborted deal that was to be signed at Deputy President William Ruto’s Harambee Annex office.
