MCA Cyrus Omondi’s Family Suspect Foul Play After He was Found Dead in India

The family of Kahawa Wendani MCA Cyrus Omondi, who was found dead in his hotel room in Mumbai, India on Wednesday, has called for thorough investigations into his mysterious death.

Led by the deceased’s younger brother Stephen Odhiambo, the family appeared to dispute reports that Omondi succumbed to a heart attack.

Odhiambo claimed that the family does not have a history of heart-related diseases and that is why they want the government to probe the circumstances leading to his death. They questioned why it was quickly reported that he died from a heart attack, yet a postmortem examination is yet to be carried out.

“We have been told that his body is in Mumbai, India. A family representative should fly to India and take part in transporting his remains back to Kenya. A comprehensive postmortem examination should be conducted to establish the exact cause of my brother’s death,” said Odhiambo while addressing reporters at Omondi’s home in Kahawa Wendani on Thursday.

“Our appeal to the Government of Kenya is that a thorough probe into his death is conducted. It would be remembered that Cyrus was dedicated to the Jubilee administration.”

While confirming Omondi’s death on Wednesday evening, Kiambu County Assembly Speaker Stephen Ndichu said the politician suffered a heart attack. His passing was also confirmed by Rono Kosigi, the Liaison Officer at the Kenyan High Commission in India.

Omondi was among members of the Kiambu County Assembly’s Education Committee who attended a workshop in India recently.

He was elected as Kahawa Wendani MCA on a Jubilee Party ticket in the 2017 general election after two previous unsuccessful attempts. Omondi, who hails from Siaya County, became the first non-native to be elected to the Kiambu County Assembly.
