Kiambu Governor Waititu to Spend Night at Industrial Area Remand Prison

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu will spend Tuesday night in remand prison after he was unable to post cash bail or bond granted to him by the court on time.

Waititu, who was released on a cash bail of Sh15 million or Sh30 million bond, will spend the night at Industrial Area remand prison.

He was freed by Milimani Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi after pleading not guilty to graft charges over an Sh588 million irregular tender.

On the other hand, Waititu’s wife Susan Wangari who was released on Sh4 million cash bail or Sh10 million bond will be detained at Lang’ata Women’s Prison.

The couple spent the last two days in police cells after they presented themselves to Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Sunday following arrest orders issued by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji last Friday.

In the bail ruling, Magistrate Mugambi barred Governor Waititu and all accused Kiambu county government officials from accessing their offices until their cases are heard and determined.

The order means Kiambu Deputy Governor Dr. James Nyoro will be in charge of county operations in Waititu’s absence.
