2022 Presidential Debates to Take Place in July

The Media Owners Association, the Media Council of Kenya and the Kenya Editors Guild have launched the Kenya Presidential Debates 2022 ahead of the August 9th elections.

The three media entities released the debates schedule during a press briefing on Wednesday, saying the move is part of efforts by the media to ensure voters make the right decisions during elections. They announced that the 2022 presidential and running mates debates will take place in July.

"Debates have become the place for clarity of priority, the place for public policies, the place for ideas, and other development aspects key to the Kenyan people,” they said in a statement.

"The debates play a significant role in the way we chose our leaders. During these debates, the public gets to listen to the candidates and gauge what their priorities could be once they get into office."

Clifford Machoka, the Head of External Affairs & Marketing at Nation Media Group, was appointed as the Head of the Presidential Debates Secretariat. He will lead a multi-institutional team to engage political party partners and stakeholders in the electoral process, as well as organize the 2022 Presidential and Deputy Presidential Debates.

He will be deputized by Leo Mutisya, the Media Council of Kenya's Head of Research and Media Monitoring, and Rosalia Omungo, the Kenya Editors' Guild's CEO.

“What we launch today is a journey that will see the various arms of the media industry play their rightful role during this electoral process,” the three media organizations said.

We hope they use Kiswahili, the national language for all to understand.
Kenyan's need not just a show but to discern who their leaders are and whom they represent.
We are heading to an important time. A time for revelation and restoration.
"Ee mungu nguvu yetu"!!
